MILTON, Mass.- The Endicott women’s basketball team pulled away late in a 77-62 road victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday night inside Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Gymnasium behind a career-high 28 points from senior guard Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.).
With the win, the Gulls are now 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the CCC, while Curry dropped to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
In a game that featured seven ties and five lead changes, it was a back-and-forth affair early on as the first quarter saw Curry hold a narrow 18-16 margin, but the Colonels’ seven-point largest lead of the game at the 8:04 mark of the second quarter up 25-18 began to dwindle.
The Gulls rallied back to knot the score at 29-all with 4:22 to play on a three-pointer from Cuddy and again at 31-31 on a layup from sophomore guard Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) at 2:51, which was the last time Endicott would trail or be tied in the game.
Cuddy contributed a season-high 18 points in the first half on 7-of-12 shooting and 2-of-2 at the line to take the Gulls into halftime with a 37-33 lead.
Endicott put the Colonels away late, scoring 25 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the hosts for the first time in the past four meetings.
BEYOND THE BOX
- Endicott scored 25 points in the fourth quarter of a game for the second time this season (12/08/15 vs. Salve Regina). The team’s most points in a single quarter this season was 28 in the second quarter in a 94-50 win over Maine Presque-Isle on Nov. 15, 2015.
- Cuddy has recorded double-digit points in every game this season to stretch her double-digit scoring streak to ten games.
- Cuddy set a career-high with 24 points against Brandeis on Saturday and bested that effort today with 28 points and eight rebounds.
- The Gulls placed three student-athletes in double figures as Kiernan and sophomore forward Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) tallied 15 points (three rebounds, three assists, career-high four steals) and 14 points (six rebounds, one assist, one steal, respectively.
FOR THE FOES
- Graduate student guard Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) led the Colonels with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and connected on 4-of-9 from three-point range to go with five rebounds and two assists.
- Sophomore center Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) chipped in 15 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
- Senior guard/forward Kerry White (Windham, N.H.) added 11 points with two assists and three steals to become the third Curry student-athlete in double figures on the night.
- Senior center/forward Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds and tallied nine points.
NOTES
- Endicott is 21-6 all-time and 10-5 on the road at Curry dating back prior to the 2002 season.
- The Colonels won 66-49 in Milton, Mass. in the most recent meeting before today on Feb. 26, 2015 in the CCC Semifinals.
- Endicott snapped a three-game losing skid against the Colonels as Curry has won the past three of the past four meetings.
WHAT’S NEXT
The Gulls (6-4, 4-0 CCC) will host Roger Williams on Thursday, January 7 at 5:30 p.m., while Curry (heads to Biddeford, Maine on Thursday, January for a 5:30 p.m. tip off against the reigning champion University of New England Nor’easters.
