On Sunday, Aug. 7 at about 7:46 p.m., Nahant Police received reports of a vessel that had crashed into the rocks along the East Point Cliffs and was taking on water.
The Harbormaster boat was deployed with Harbormaster Robert Tibbo, Nahant Police Sgt. Matthew Morneau, Nahant Fire Lt. Dave Doyle, and Firefighter Nick Papagelis onboard.
Upon arrival, firefighters entered the water and made their way toward the lodged vessel.
Five individuals were safely removed from their vessel, loaded onto the Harbormaster boat, and escorted back to the Town Wharf for evaluation.
One individual was transported to an area hospital. There were no other reported injuries.
The boat is still lodged on the rocks at East Point. The U.S. Coast Guard and SeaTow are assessing options for towing.
“I want to commend everyone for their valiant efforts in this rescue,” said Chief Furlong. “Severe thunderstorms Sunday resulted in slightly choppy water making it difficult to navigate, but thanks to the quick thinking and vigilant efforts of our first responders everyone made it out safely.”
