Game report from Spartans Coach Mike D’Agostino

Girls Soccer

Ipswich – 2  Manchester-Essex – 3
From Tigers’ Coach Courtney Penta:
Another tough loss, and a close game between the Ipswich Tigers and Manchester-Essex.  The teams played each other evenly throughout most of the game, as Ipswich scored first.  The goal came from Junior center midfielder, Hannah Scruton, who took a couple touches and ripped a shot from about 25 yards out off of her left foot.  After a month of suffering injuries that have kept her off of the field, Hannah played her first full game and her impact was obvious from start to finish.  She controlled the middle of the field and created multiple opportunities for us offensively.  The Tigers held off M-E until half-time, but after the half, M-E came out hard and put a goal in the net to tie the game.  They came back quickly with another goal, and Ipswich then countered. The Tigers’ second goal came off of a corner kick delivered by Freshman outside midfielder, Lauren Waters, whose cross found the foot of Junior center midfielder, Nicole Sindoni on a volley into the net. Despite the back and forth play, the relentless speed of the M-E offense eventually broke down Ipswich’s defense to put away the game-winner.  Junior Nicole Sindoni had an excellent game at center mid.  She has consistently stepped up and been a controlling force in the middle for us.

Salem 2, Winthrop 1

St. Mary’s 1 Bishop Fenwick 1

Lynnfield 2 Masconomet 2

Hamilton-Wenham 3, Rockport 1

From Generals Coach Nancy Waddell:
The Generals got on the board in the seventh minute with a goal by senior forward Erin O’Shea.   Senior forward Meg Vien added another one inn the 27th minute off a ball from senior Cate Pasquarello. Unfortunately the Generals gave up a goal in the opening twenty seconds of the second half.  With the score 2-1, the Generals continued to put pressure on Rockport.  With a few questionable calls that negated two more goals by the Generals, junior midfielder Elizabeth Gasiorowski sent a corner kick into the box that was finished by sophomore forward Jordan Story.
Addie Condon had 3 saves for the Generals in net.
Hamilton Wenham (1-6-2) will look for another win on Wednesday at Triton.

From Tigers’ Caoch Kerri O’Connor

25-19, 25-20, 25-22
Intensity and team hustle was slow today but we were also adjusting to a few court changes – switching hitting positions by a few players.   Lauren Kennedy hit outside and had multiple, powerful serving streaks and Emily Davidson switched to middle and had confidence with some key blocks and hits.  Grace Quinn played an overall strong game hitting, passing and setting well.  We need to clean a few things up and bring a higher intensity as we press on to reach our playoff goals.
