Hamilton Police Update

On Sunday, January 28, 2018, at about 2:00 PM Beverly Police issued a BOLO for a motor vehicle involved in a domestic assault and had a temporary warrant for its operator, Samuel Gourdeau. At about 6:40 PM, Wenham Police located the vehicle in their town and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle failed to stop and continued into Beverly. Wenham and Beverly Police later lost sight of the vehicle.

The Hamilton Police later came across a 2 car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Essex St and Woodbury St. It was determined that one of the vehicles involved was the subject of the earlier Beverly BOLO. The operator, who fled the scene on foot prior to the police arrival, was identified as Samuel Gourdeau of Beverly, MA. Officers from Hamilton, Wenham, Beverly, Ipswich and Essex all assisted in securing a perimeter of the area while K-9’s from the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police and Massachusetts State Police were deployed. The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing also assisted in searching for Gourdeau.

At about 7:43 PM, Gourdeau emerged from his place of concealment and was placed into custody by Officer Jake Santarelli of the Hamilton Police and Detective Thomas Shamshack of the Essex Police. Gourdeau was later transported to Beverly Hospital by Beauport Ambulance. The second operator involved in the crash was also transported to Beverly Hospital by Beauport Ambulance after complaining of minor injuries.

Gourdeau is facing the following charges from the Hamilton Police:

• Operating to Endanger
• Leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury
• Speeding
• Stop sign violation
• Disorderly conduct

Gourdeau is also facing additional charges from Beverly and Wenham Police Departments.
