Wakefield – Sunday Night Fire – Chief Michael Sullivan reports that the Wakefield Fire Department responded to and extinguished a two-alarm fire on Sunday night. On Sunday, March 24, 7:17 p.m. Wakefield Fire Department responded to reports of an alarm activation at a commercial complex at 387 Lowell St. Multiple restaurants and businesses were open and operating at the time. Upon arrival crews located a fire at North Shore Animal Academy. They immediately began an aggressive attack and struck a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.
Crews were able to contain the fire to North Shore Animal Academy, though smoke traveled through the complex to several adjacent businesses. There were no reported injuries. Mutual aid was provided by the Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Woburn Fire Departments. Ladder trucks from the North Reading and Lynnfield Fire Departments also responded. The Building Inspector and Wakefield Board of Health have been notified. “I would like to thank our mutual aid partners and our department members for their timely response and assistance during this incident,” said Chief Sullivan. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Wakefield Fire Department with assistance from the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
