After a crowd of over 2100 visited Fraser Field, the Navigators readily looked to turn the page against the Seacoast Mavericks on Sunday. The Navs and Mavs spent every inning of the game tied until Seacoast exploded for two of its victorious 3-1 final Sunday night.

Offense for the night wasn’t generated to start for the Navigators until the bottom of the fifth on Brad Douglas’s first hit of the season. Following an error by the second baseman, the Navigators went to work with runners at first and second base with two outs. In the next at bat, a ground ball by Ryan Collins (Northern Essex) was mishandled and left the bases loaded for Alex Carballo (Broward). The Navigators only run for the night scored on a throwing error over the head of the first baseman to allowed Conor Bawiec (Elmira) to score. Seacoast finished the night with four errors.

The Mavericks were able to post 11 hits to make up for defensive mishandlings, but were unsuccessful in getting runners in, stranding 14 on the night. Offense didn’t click until the top of the sixth when Seacoast catcher Stephen Octave opened the sixth inning with a standup triple and scored on a sacrifice fly.

As rain speckled the infield turf, Seacoast began to rally. The nine inning tie was broken with the bases load after an infield pursuit came up short next to the pitchers’ mound to drop in, allowing a runner to score. The second run of the evening came as Stephen Octave crossed the plate for a second time after Brock Henderson walked.

The Navigators jumped back and tried a rally, after Chris Cabrera (Broward) sailed the ball to dead center field. Even with a bobble, he stood at second with a double and was replaced by RJ Warnock (Ave Maria) as a pinch runner. After two ground balls he was left stranded at third and the Navigators were stopped as quickly as they started.

Fraser Field will open up again for baseball tomorrow evening as the Bristol Blues come to town.

Great Find in a Tweet for Danny Ventura – Boston Herald.

Safe to say the recent winner of the Scripps Spelling Bee was not hired by the MIAA to put signs out at Campanelli today
