FOXBOROUGH – Most football pundits thought Springfield Central was a favorite to win the MIAA Division One Super Bowl. In the end, St. John’s Prep scored one touchdown from the air in the second quarter and rushing touchdown in the third quarter for the only points in the game. The rest of the story was the Prep defense that shutout a high-powered Springfield Central offense. Springfield Central scored 170 points in three playoff games (57 Ave) and Saturday the Prep pitched the shutout informing Prep head coach Brian St. Pierre to say that this was the Prep’s “biggest ever super bowl win”. (3rd). The 13-0 Prep win puts an exclamation point on what turned out to be a very impressive second half of the season for the Eagles including their three win playoff run: Attleboro (46-6), Andover (48-14), and Central Catholic (28-7). Carson Browne rushed for 131 yards on 38 carries in Saturday’s game and was key to the Prep’s ball control domination in the second half during poor playing conditions featuring rain and wind. Prep quarterback Deacon Robillard went out with an injury in the first half, he was replanced Aidan Driscoll and eventually Carl Michael-Monks (Soph) who ran the offense in the second half.
