Message from Mayor Beverly Mayor Mike Cahill: COVID Update; Cabot Street Road Work

Hi Friends.  This is Mayor Mike Cahill with a Friday update.  First, some vaccine talk.  Recently, CVS opened a vaccine clinic at the Rantoul Street CVS in Beverly.  On a six week cycle, they will administer first doses of the Pfizer vaccine for three weeks, then in weeks four through six will not book new appointments as they’ll need to administer second doses during that time.  Given these limitations, we are advocating for them to open a separate vaccine clinic at the Dodge St. CVS.  If at some point they do so, we will try to let the community know immediately.  For now, there still is some capacity to book appointments at the Rantoul St. store.  According to CVS, they receive vaccine from the federal government on a weekly basis, and additional appointments open in real time as soon as they receive more vaccine.

The other place you can continue to try to book appointments is at one of the state’s mass vaccination sites, including the Doubletree hotel in Danvers.  You can find links to both the CVS and mass vaccination sites on our city website at www.beverlyma.gov.

Please know also that we applied some time ago with the state to open a regional vaccination site with ten other North Shore communities.  We, together with our partners, have been advocating with state officials and hope they will approve and open our regional site as soon as vaccine supplies increase.

Last, for now, whether you’ve been vaccinated or not, with recent increases in COVID-19 cases around the state, let’s all please continue our efforts to prevent spread of the virus in Beverly.  Let’s please keep wearing masks, washing hands, and keep being thoughtful and careful in our interactions with people outside our households.  Be well and stay healthy.  Thank you all and have a wonderful weekend.

Cabot Street Road Work Begins

Cabot Streetscape Pedestrian View

Roadwork on Cabot Street, between Pond Street and Federal Street, has begun. Below is the City’s best estimate of the timeline for this week:

  • Monday, April 5 – Begin and end cold planing (grinding off top layer of asphalt). Cabot Street closed from Pond Street to Federal Street, traffic detoured off of Cabot Street at West Dane and Bow Street.
  • Tuesday, April 6 – Leveling / Grading work. Cabot Street closed from Pond Street to Federal Street, traffic detoured off of Cabot Street at Pond Street and Bow Street.
  • Wednesday, April 7 – Full access to Cabot Street.
  • Thursday, April 8 – Raising of structures (manhole covers, storm drains, etc.), one lane of traffic on Cabot Street.
  • Friday, April 9 –  Raising of structures continued, one lane of traffic on Cabot Street.

NOTE: As with all construction work, timelines can change due to weather and crew availability. Additionally, safety is the City’s first priority. The determination of lane closures is made daily by the on-site police detail according to what is safest for the public.
