MANCHESTERBYTHESEA – Did you know that last year, the Manchester Fire Department launched a program focused on enhancing the training and professional development of our Officers and Acting Officers? All Officers and Acting Officers have either completed or are scheduled to complete the Blue Card Incident Command program. The primary objectives of this training are to improve the safety and efficiency of firefighting operations. Blue Card training equips firefighters with essential skills to effectively implement command functions, thereby enhancing their response capabilities during structural fires and other complex incidents. We witnessed the benefits of this program firsthand during the 2nd Alarm Fire on Summer Street, where our training was put to the test. Lt. Doucette, the most senior member of our department, adeptly employed this model, resulting in a well-coordinated operation. Listen to the initial radio traffic here. We are proud to share that 100% of our Officers are certified, and 80% of our Acting Officers have undergone training, with completion scheduled for February. This program is being adopted in various communities throughout Essex County.
