GLOUCESTER – National Grid crews, working on telephone poles in the area, apparently struck a large water main on Essex Avenue in Gloucester near Lyndale Avenue at just before 12:30 p.m. today. Traffic has been diverted at Stanwood Avenue heading west, and onto Lyndale heading east. As of 1 p.m., water had been shut off in the area after the initial break caused some damage to driveways and walls on Essex Avenue. No estimate was given as to how long the repair would take or how long residents would be without water.
