UPDATE:  Massachusetts State Police Media Release–06042016–Trooper Struck by Motorcycle on Revere Beach

The injured trooper remains at MGH undergoing tests for head and upper body injuries.

Investigation by troopers led to the further determination that the suspect DIROCHE was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

After striking the trooper, in the area of the Revere Beach Bandstand, DIROCHE struck a car and then tried to run away on foot. Troopers pursued and apprehended him.

At the time of the crash, the trooper had just exited his cruiser after stopping a car on the Boulevard for motor vehicle violations.  Just after getting out of the cruiser, he was struck by DIROCHE, who had been observed moments earlier speeding and operating recklessly. (Trooper was not on a foot patrol as previously stated.)

In addition to the charges listed below, DIROCHE has been additionally charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and Leaving the Scene of a Crash that Caused Personal Injury.

At approximately 5:30 pm today a Massachusetts State Trooper on a foot patrol on Revere Beach Boulevard was struck by a motorcyclist who was operating recklessly.

At the time he was struck, the trooper, a male, was trying to get the motorcyclist to stop after he and other troopers had observed him speeding and recklessly changing lanes on the Boulevard. The motorcyclist failed to stop and rode directly into the trooper.

The injured trooper was transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital with contusion and laceration injuries and a possible concussion.

The operator of the 2005 Yamaha motorcycle was arrested on scene and transported to Whidden Hospital for possible minor injuries. He is identified as DANILO DIROCHE, 26, of Lynn.

DIROCHE will be charged with Failure to Stop for Police, Marked Lanes Violation, Operating to Endanger, Speeding, Unsafe Passing, and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, to wit a motor vehicle. Once he is released from the hospital he will be booked at the State Police Barracks on Revere Beach.

The trooper’s name is not being released at this time.

No further information is expected to be released tonight.
