A Lynn man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a triple shooting that killed one man and injured two others on June 23, 2018 on Lawton Avenue in Lynn.
A jury found Victor Figueroa-Flores, 23, guilty of first-degree murder and two counts of assault & battery with a dangerous weapon on Friday, October 28, 2022, following an 8-day trial in Lawrence Superior Court.
Judge William Barrett imposed the sentence today after a prosecutor read impact statements from members of the victim’s family.
His co-defendant, Nathaniel Pagan, 20, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on October 12, 2022. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years. Pagan was 16 years old at the time of the murder.
Essex Assistant District Attorney Kelleen Forlizzi introduced evidence that proved that the defendant, who was 18 at the time, along with co-defendant Pagan, randomly targeted the three men, mistaking them for Trinitario gang members. In the early morning hours of June 23, 2018, Figueroa-Flores and Pagan, “laid in wait” on Lawton Street as Romel Danis, 25 and two other men walked down the street. The defendants began firing as the three men passed them. Danis was struck by a bullet as he jumped into his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
ADA Forlizzi was assisted at trial by ADA James Gubitose and Victim Witness Advocate Cristina Garcia. Forlizzi thanked Massachusetts State Police detectives Matt Murphy and John Lannon; Lynn Police detectives Chris Kelly and Gary Haggerty and Rockport Police officer Josh Ulrich (former MSP detective) for their work on the investigation.
