Lowell Man Dies in Salisbury Motor Cycle Crash – Friday Afternoon – State Police Report

State Police Report – May 23, 2020 –Yesterday afternoon at about 4:18 p.m., troopers responded to a crash involving a motorcycle on Route 495 in Salisbury that resulted in the death of the operator.

Preliminary investigation indicate that Brian Barry, 51 of Lowell was driving a 1998 VL1500 motorcycle Route 495 North prior to the merge with Route 95 in Salisbury. For unknown reasons Barry had pulled into the median on the left side and stopped. A Toyota Camry that was traveling in the left lane braked when the operator observed Barry and believed he was about to enter the left travel lane. A 2011 Ford F-150 traveling in the left lane swerved left into the median to avoid the Toyota. The Ford struck the motorcycle and Barry was throw over the guardrail. The operator of the Ford, a 77 year-old man from Turner, Maine stopped and remained at the scene of the crash. The operator of the Toyota, a 62 year-old woman from Douglas, also stopped and remained at the scene.

Barry was transported by Med Flight to Beth Israel Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The right and left travel lanes of Route 495 North were closed for approximately half an hour.

The crash remains under investigation with assistance from State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Essex County State Police Detective Unit.
