Swampscott Boys Ice Hockey Tops Lynn Jets 1-0 Win Northeastern Conference South Title

SALEM – Swampscott High School boys hockey team defeated the Lynn Jets Monday evening at Salem State 1-0 and captured the Northeastern Conference South championship. Swampscott improves to (14-2, 4-1). Lynn Jets fall to (9-3-2, 2-2-1). Swamspcott also beat Lynn 2-0 back on December 27. The Big Blue were the Big Green tonight as they wore green tee shirts honoring Nate Deroche (a guest of Tim Kearns during the second intermission), a middle school athlete who is undergoing treatment for a curable form of lymphoma. The tee shirts sales and ticket proceeds, along with the 50-50 raffle, all went to benefit the Deroche family in their financial commitment to Nate’s treatments.  The Swampscott sports community filled the lower stands at Rockett Arena.

Mike Johnson’s goal at 10:06 of the first period stood up as the game-winner as Dan Johnson pitched the shutout, while Jets goalie Jack Stafford made 23 saves.
