Ipswich Police Launch Coffee with a Cop Event – March Event Will Be Held Quarterly

IPSWICH — Chief Paul A. Nikas announces that the Ipswich Police Department, in collaboration with the Ipswich Council on Aging, held its first Coffee with a Cop event last week.

Police visited the Senior Center on Wednesday, March 16 as part of a new initiative that gives seniors the opportunity to talk and ask questions with officers in relaxed setting. Discussion topics vary, but include important safety tips, town news and other prevalent community topics, like reoccurring scams.

The event was coordinated by Sgt. Dan Kmiec and Officer Matthew Bodwell, who are members of the Ipswich TRIAD group — a community safety initiative that focuses on empowering, educating, and improving the safety, security, and peace of mind of senior residents.

“This is a great opportunity and setting for citizens to informally talk to and get to know their police officers,” Chief Nikas said. “We are excited about the potential for this initiative and believe it will enhance our relationships with the seniors in town. We encourage anyone who was not able to make it this month to attend the next Coffee with a Cop event.”

Sheila Taylor, executive director of the Ipswich Council on Aging, added that the event was well attended and provided a good opportunity for the seniors to have an open dialogue with officers in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Ipswich Police Department plans to offer Coffee with a Cop every quarter. For more information on the event, or to find out the next meeting date, contact the Ipswich Police Department at 978-356-4343.
