Gloucester Police Department Reminds Community of Traffic Activity Ahead of St. Peter’s Fiesta

GLOUCESTER — Chief Edward Conley and the Gloucester Police Department would like to remind the community to expect increased traffic activity during the annual St. Peter’s Fiesta celebrations.

The Fiesta will take place from Wednesday, June 26 to Sunday, June 30. This event has been hosted around St. Peter’s Feast Day (June 29) since 1927. In those 97 years, the parade has become a popular event, drawing in visitors from all around the country.

Residents should expect an increase in traffic congestion on or around Rogers Street, Main Street, and Washington Street during the Fiesta dates. Gloucester Fire, Gloucester Harbormaster, and other state emergency agencies will be present during the celebrations.

The following events are historically popular and are expected to generate foot and vehicle traffic:

  • Fiesta 5K Road Race: Thursday, June 27, 6-7 p.m.
  • St. Peter’s Fiesta Greasy Pole Contest and Seine Boat Races: June 28-30, 4:45 p.m.
  • Mass of St. Peter: Sunday, June 30, 10 a.m.

Multiple roads will be closed to traffic during the Fiesta 5K, including Western Ave, Rogers Street, Main Street, East Main Street, Wall Street, and Rogers Street.

The Gloucester Police Department asks that visitors and residents are respectful of parking signage and resident-only parking areas. Read all posted signage carefully before parking your vehicle. Parking restrictions will be enforced.

The department will have officers stationed around the Fiesta grounds and on the water. The department would like to remind everybody to follow local ordinances and laws. Cooperation from both visitors and local community members helps maintain a safe, enjoyable experience.

“We are excited to celebrate this signature summer event with our residents and visitors,” said Chief Conley. “We want everyone to have a great time and ask all to make it a safe weekend. Please follow the law and respect parking restrictions in the areas surrounding the events.”
