Gloucester Police Department Investigating Report of Altercation in Woods Involving Youths

GLOUCESTER – Chief Edward Conley reports that the Gloucester Police Department is actively investigating an incident in which a Gloucester teenager was allegedly assaulted by other teens.

On Friday, Aug. 30, at about 10:45 p.m., the Gloucester Police Department responded to the area of Dogtown Road for a report of a person missing, who was last seen in the woods. Upon arrival, officers learned that there had been a dispute among teenagers during a party in the woods. Officers subsequently located the teen, who was then transported by the Gloucester Fire Department to an area hospital for treatment.

Police have determined that the parties involved in this incident are known to one another.

Based on the information gathered to date, Chief Conley on Tuesday assigned a Gloucester Police detective trained in civil rights investigations to lead the case.

The Department has been in contact with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office for its support and resources.

“We are treating these allegations with the utmost seriousness,” Chief Conley said. “We ask the public to allow the investigation to proceed without rushing to judgment.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Gloucester Police Department at 978-283-1212.
