Gloucester Police Department Completes Move Into Temporary Offices

GLOUCESTER 一 According to Gloucester Police Chief Edward Conley, as of Monday, July 31, the Gloucester Police Department has completed a temporary move into the second floor of the police and court building at 197 Main St.

As a result, several of the police department’s phone numbers have changed.

The new main, non-emergency number to reach the Gloucester Police Department is 978-325-5400, and the following office numbers have also changed:

  • Business Office — 978-325-5450
  • Records Office — 978-325-5420
  • Community Impact Unit — 978-325-5470
  • Animal Control — 978-325-5480
  • Investigations — 978-325-5465

The police department’s move is part of a $19.3 million renovation of the building that houses both the Gloucester Police Department and Gloucester District Court.

Gloucester District Court has temporarily moved from its location on the second floor of 197 Main St., to Peabody, and the police department is now functioning out of the second floor space previously occupied by the court. The police department was previously located on the building’s first floor.

The first floor of the building will now be renovated while police operate out of the second floor. Once first floor renovations are complete, the police department will move back into the first floor so that second floor renovations can be made. Renovations to the first floor space are expected to take about 10 months.

While the police department is operating out of its temporary location, all individuals arrested in Gloucester will be transported to the Rockport Police Department for booking and temporary detention.

Gloucester Police have established a public-facing window on the building’s second floor for those seeking reports, firearms licenses or other in-person police services.

“We want to make everyone in the community aware of our new non-emergency numbers, and to remind everyone that they should still call 911 in the case of an emergency,” said Chief Conley. “For non-emergency matters, 978-325-5400 is now the best number to reach Gloucester Police.”
