Continued use of online services strongly encouraged
GLOUCESTER — Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Public Health Director Karin Carroll announce the reopening of Gloucester City Hall and City Hall Annex to the public for city business.
Gloucester City Hall and the City Hall Annex will reopen to the public on Tuesday, July 21, after closing to the public in March due to COVID-19. Offices will be open to residents for city business only.
“The City of Gloucester is happy to welcome the public back to city offices. We ask for everyone to be patient and kind as we navigate reopening,” said Mayor Romeo Theken. “Please respect the new protocols in place, as the safety of city employees and residents is our top priority.”
The City of Gloucester strongly encourages residents to continue to conduct city business online where possible or to call ahead for an appointment. Due to staggered staff schedules and limited office occupancy, wait times may be significantly increased for in-person services. Depending on volume, socially distanced queuing may be required outside of the building. Walk-ins are welcome, but those with appointments will be given priority.
All visitors will need to check in upon arrival and provide their name, phone number and the department they are visiting. If needed, this information will be used for contact tracing efforts. Visitors will also be asked to use hand sanitizer before proceeding to their designated department office.
City Hall Visitor Rules due to COVID-19:
Face coverings or masks must be worn at all times. Entrance will not be permitted to those without a mask.
Visitors must maintain six feet of social distancing while inside the building or an office.
Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building. Visitors are encouraged to use dispensers before and after any transaction or interaction with staff.
Visitors should follow the one-way directional arrows and wait at the appropriate floor markings while in line for service.
Please limit the number of people that enter the building as part of a group.
Please exit the building immediately after the completion of transactions via the appropriate one-way arrow markings.
The Department of Public Works has installed protective plexiglass and tempered glass panels in city offices, wall signage, one-way arrows and queuing floor decals to aid guests in social distancing practices.
At Gloucester City Hall, the Warren Street doors, located near the intersection of Dale Avenue and Warren Street, will be used as an entrance and the Dale Avenue doors will serve as an exit only. The handicapped entrance to the ground level of City Hall is located adjacent to the Dale Avenue doors and will be opened on demand for handicapped persons only.
Checks and/or money orders are the preferred methods of payment for in-person transactions.
Beach parking stickers will not be available for same day purchase. Residents are strongly encouraged to mail in applications for processing. However, residents may choose to drop off their applications in either of the drop boxes at the Warren Street entrance, in which case stickers would be available for in-person pick-up by 2 p.m. the next afternoon. Please be sure to note on your application if you would prefer to pick up or to have the beach sticker mailed to you.
Online services available to residents include paying motor vehicle excise tax, parking tickets, personal property tax, real estate tax, and water/sewer bills. Residents can also document a neighborhood concern via SeeClickFix and online permitting is available from the Building Department, Fire Department, Health Department, and City Clerk’s Office.
