Gloucester – Mayor Posts Message Warning of Fraudulent Emails

Gloucester – From Mayor Greg Verga:
We’ve been made aware of a recent fraudulent email sent to a Gloucester resident requesting a wire transfer of funds. Please know that the City of Gloucester, and especially my office, will never ask you to wire money.
If you ever receive a message that looks like it’s from me or the City, please call my office at 978-325-5100 to verify before taking any action.
Scams like this are on the rise. We’ve reported this incident to the Gloucester Police Department, and they are actively investigating. I’m also working with Councilors Gross, Nolan, and Memhard, as well as District Attorney Paul Tucker, to address a separate issue involving fraudulent Bitcoin ATM transactions.
Please stay vigilant, verify messages before responding, and check in on family, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to these types of schemes. Together, we can help keep Gloucester safe.
