GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that a Gloucester firefighter was injured while responding to a fire at a single family home today.
At 4:15 p.m. firefighters responded to 12 Fleetwoods Drive for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival firefighters saw smoke coming from the building and found a fire burning inside the home.
Firefighters found extensive damage to the interior of the home and ultimately extinguished the one-alarm fire. One firefighter sustained what is believed to be a minor injury to his hand at the scene. The firefighter was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, and no one else was injured.
Firefighters started to clear the area at approximately 5 p.m.
The home sustained significant damage and is not currently habitable.
Four Gloucester Fire engines, a ladder truck, rescue, Chief Smith, Assistant Chief Bob Rivas, and Deputy Chief Tom LoGrande responded to the scene, as well as Rehab Five of Beverly and Beauport Emergency Medical Services. Rockport Fire provided station coverage as well.
The fire remains under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department.
