Gloucester Fire on Saturday Destroys House; Cause Under Investigation

GLOUCESTER – Gloucester Fire Chief Eric Smith told MSO News Monday the fire that destroyed on the Annisquam River waterfront near 498 Washington Street on Saturday was so intense when firefighters arrived, they had to battle the fire completely from the outside.  Because of the location of the house, it was particularly difficult for fire apparatus to get to the side of the house where the fire was the worst.

Gloucester’s Harbormaster and Police boats assisted in putting out the fire.

“A couple of firefighters” were treated at Addison Gilbert Hospital for minor injuries, released, and cleared to report back to duty on Monday.
