GLOUCESTER — Fire Chief Eric Smith is pleased to report that the Gloucester Fire Department is welcoming two new firefighters to its ranks.

Firefighter/EMT Tyler Philbrook and Firefighter/EMT Quincy Carvino are both already certified in Firefighter I and II training, and therefore did not need to attend the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Both men joined the department on Monday, Sept. 9.

Both firefighter/EMTs are currently undergoing a four-week orientation program, after which they will spend a year as probationary firefighters. Both will also be required to complete paramedic training within 18 months.

Firefighter/EMT Tyler is a Gloucester resident, who previously worked for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire) and the Newbury Fire Department.

Firefighter/EMT Quincy is a Gloucester resident, who previously worked at Beauport Ambulance, the Essex Fire Department, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, and the Rockport Fire Department.

“We are fortunate to have hired two well-trained recruits to fill vacancies in the ranks of the Gloucester Fire Department,” said Chief Smith. “I’m happy we were able to hire these two men, and I look forward to seeing where their careers with Gloucester Fire will take them.”
