Gloucester Fire Department: Heavy Smoke and Water Damage to Home in Annisquam

GLOUCESTER – Gloucester Firefighters responded to a phone call from a neighbor at just before 8 p.m. Sunday night that heavy smoke was pouring out of the wooden-frame house at 51 Nashua Avenue in Annisquam.  According to Deputy Fire Chief Joe Aiello, when firefighters arrived at the scene, they were unable to enter the first floor door due to heat and smoke; and were forced to enter the building through the basement.  No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported, according the Gloucester Fire Department report.  It took firefighters approximately 20 minutes to knock down the blaze.  They remained at the scene for approximately two hours.

All available units of Gloucester fire apparatus were called to the fire while the Rockport Fire Department provided coverage at Gloucester headquarters.

The fire, believed to be electrical in origin, caused an estimated $150,000 in smoke and water damage.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Aiello was the Incident Commander.
