Gloucester Fire Battling Two-Alarm Brush Fire, Asks Public to Avoid Area and Refrain from Starting Outdoor Fires

GLOUCESTER —
Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department is actively on scene of a two-alarm brush fire Sunday afternoonOn Sunday, Nov. 10, at about 11:23 a.m., Gloucester Fire were dispatched to the area of Quarry Street for multiple reports of smoke and fire. Firefighters deployed drones over the area and were able to confirm smoke in the reported area.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find about three acres of woods involved in flames. Responding companies began battling the fire, and a second alarm was struck to bring more support to the scene.

This is an ongoing incident. Companies are on scene actively working to contain and extinguish the fire.

Mutual aid is being provided by the Rockport, Essex, Manchester and Beverly Fire Departments. The State Department of Conservation & Recreation Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Forestry, Massachusetts Environmental Police and Rehab 5 are also on scene.

The Wenham, Danvers and Peabody Fire Departments are providing station coverage.

Off-duty Gloucester firefighters were recalled to assist on scene and provide station coverage.

Gloucester Fire asks that the public avoid the area while companies are on scene.

The Department also reminds residents that outdoor burning is prohibited and that there is an extremely high wildfire risk across the state. Any resident or community member who participates in outdoor burning, including any fire that poses a hazard to persons or property, will be issued a ticket for unsafe operation of a fire. This includes any cooking fire that becomes unsafe or uncontrollable, as described in City ordinances.
