Georgetown Public Schools Shares Information on Collective Bargaining Via New Webpage

GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown School Committee shares that a new page has been created on the Georgetown Public Schools’ website, designed to share information on Collective Bargaining.

In the interest of full transparency, the district has created a new page to inform the community about the inner workings of Georgetown School Committee’s Three-Year Step/Scale Salary Proposal.

Our teachers are working under the terms of the contract that expired on Aug. 31. The Committee and Georgetown Education Association have yet been able to reach agreement on the successor contract. In a further example of the openness, the School Committee agreed to hold all negotiations in public session, so that the community may see first-hand the positions of each party.

The School Committee’s vision is to reach a contract that is fair to both sides, maintains the district’s ability to provide a quality education to all children, and respects the current budget and the Georgetown community.

The page outlines how teachers’ salaries are structured to provide necessary background, the School Committee’s compensation proposal, and the tentative agreements between the GEA Negotiating Committee and the School Committee that have been reached to date.
