Georgetown Police and Fire Respond to Suspicious Odor at Georgetown Middle High School

GEORGETOWN — Superintendent Margo Ferrick, Fire Chief Matt McKay, and Police Chief David Sedgwick report that Georgetown Police and Fire responded to Georgetown Middle High School for reports of a suspicious odor.

On Friday, Oct. 11 at 10:20 a.m. Georgetown Fire and Police Departments responded to Georgetown Middle High School for reports of a strong suspicious odor.

Students at the Middle High School were evacuated from the building as first responders worked to locate where the odor was coming from and mitigate any possible leaks.

National Grid also responded to the scene.

The cause of the odor was determined to be an appliance malfunction.

There were no reported injuries. Students were dismissed for the remainder of the school day as a precaution, and parents were notified.

Crews remained on-scene to ensure there were no further issues.

Mutual aid was provided by Rowley Police and Fire, and Georgetown Highway Department.
