Georgetown Gets New Fire Chief – Fred A. Mitchell Jr.

New Chief Takes Command at Georgetown Fire Department

GEORGETOWN — After a thorough search, the Georgetown Fire Department is pleased to announce that Fred A. Mitchell Jr. has officially taken command.

“It’s an honor to be selected for this new position and to be working in Georgetown,” Chief Mitchell said. “I am looking forward to getting to know the members of the fire department and the community.”

Mitchell officially began workon Oct. 4. Previously, he was the Deputy Chief of the North Cumberland, R.I. Fire Department. Mitchell also has 31 years of experience as a firefighter.

He succeeds Chief Albert B. Beardsley, who retired on Sept. 1.

The men and women of the Georgetown Fire Department gathered to welcome Chief Mitchell over the weekend.
