GEORGETOWN – (Photos) Chief Fred A. Mitchell, Jr. reports that the Georgetown Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm fire on Charles Street early this morning.
At 12:31 a.m., Georgetown Fire was dispatched to 35 Charles St. on a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, crews saw fire coming from the front window of the finished basement. A second alarm was ordered.
Georgetown Engine 1, Engine 4, Ladder 1, along with and Car 1 and Car 4 responded to the scene. Fire departments from Rowley, Byfield, Groveland and Haverhill also arrived to provide mutual aid. Station coverage was provided by the Boxford and West Newbury fire departments.
No one was injured and the occupants made it out of the home safely prior to the fire department’s arrival. The fire was contained to the basement and after an aggressive attack, crews cleared the scene at 3:30 a.m.
Chief Mitchell estimates the damage to be around $75,000. The home is uninhabitable.
“We were able to quickly knock this fire down due to the efficient work by Georgetown fire crews, with assistance from our neighboring departments,” Chief Mitchell said. “Thank you to all involved.”
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Georgetown Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. However, the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
