Endicott Baseball Tops Salem State 7-0
BEVERLY – Behind a seven-inning gem from Rian Schwede (Whitman, Mass.), the No. 10/12 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated Salem State, 7-0, on Friday evening at North Field.
WP (1-0): Rian Schwede (Whitman) – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K LP (0-1): Jack Sefrino (Dartmouth) – 5 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Schwede was dominant in his first start of the season as the senior righty tossed four 1-2-3 innings and only allowed two runners into scoring position on 78 pitches (56 strikes, unofficially).
The Gulls’ offense took care of the rest as Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.), Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.), Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunto), John Mulready (Peabody), and Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) all drove in runs.
Shpur led the group with the game’s first (third inning) and final (eighth inning) RBI of the night.
Meanwhile, Chris Jenkins (Mansfield) also shined out of the pen by retiring all six batters he faced. His final line was two innings, no walks, and two punchouts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The all-time series between the two programs is now tied up 17-17-2.
- Schwede earned his seventh career win.
- Mulready finished the day going 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI (15th career multi-hit game).

No. 10/12 Endicott (1-0) travels to Brandeis on Tuesday, March 7 at 3:30 PM. Salem State (0-1) plays Mt. Aloysius on Sunday, March 12 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (6/9 PM).

BEVERLY – The No. 10/12 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team is scheduled to begin its 2023 campaign on Friday, March 3 at home against Salem State at 3:30 PM. Here’s a preview of the Gulls’ upcoming season.
FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Endicott has been picked to repeat as conference champions via the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
- Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) and Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) have been named captains for the 2023 season.
- The Gulls will take on eight teams who are either nationally ranked or receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and/or D3baseball.com Preseason Polls.
- Chapman will be the highest nationally ranked team Endicott will play to start the season as the Panthers are currently situated No. 5 and No. 7, respectively in the previously mentioned polls.
- Shpur and Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) were named 2023 D3baseball.com Preseason All-Americans.
