veterans day

The City of Newburyport will observe Veterans Day 2024 on Monday November 11th.  Veterans and their families and all residents are encouraged to join us for a march and ceremony in honor of our veterans.

The day’s events begin at 10:30 a.m. as participants will organize in the CVS Parking Lot on Pond Street and then march to City Hall. There will be a speaking program at 11:00 a.m. at City Hall, 60 Pleasant Street, featuring an Invocation by Captain John Erik Berkhoudt of the Newburyport Salvation Army. Mayor Sean Reardon will recite the names of recently departed veterans, and City Veterans Agent Kevin Hunt will share memories and remembrances. Local Scout groups and the Newburyport High School Marching Band will also participate. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be in the City Hall auditorium at 11:00 a.m.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., we will leave City Hall to parade around Market Square, up State Street and to the Veterans Cemetery at the base of Pond Street, where our ceremony will continue with the laying of a memorial wreath and a benediction. We hope you can join us for this tribute to our veterans.

In observance of the holiday, City Hall, DPS, the Senior/Community Center and the Newburyport Public Library will be closed on Monday, November 11th and will re-open on Tuesday, November 12th.

We thank the many Veterans in our community for their service and all they have done to keep our country safe and free.
