Navigators Fall To Sharks In Tightly Contested Game, 4-3

On a breezy night here at Fraser Field, the North Shore Navigators took on the visiting Martha’s Vineyard Sharks. The two teams, tied at 6-12 in the standings, battled in hopes of sending one another to the cellar. The Navigators cooled off a bit and were unable to add on to their five game win streak, falling by the final score of 4-3.

For the second game in a row the Navigators started slowly, trailing 3-0 after the top of third. Mack Nathanson (Wofford College) got the offense started for the Navs hitting a solo shot to left center. It was Nathanson’s first home run of the season and it was a crucial moment in the game for the Navs.

Later in the inning after a singling and advancing on an error, Joey Pena, the St. Thomas Aquinas product who has reached base safely in all 18 games he has played, reached second base. MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) hit an RBI single immediately after to cut the lead to 3-2 after three

The Navs were able to tie the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Pena lead of the inning and was able to advance to third on a Singleton double. A Mike D’Acunti sacrifice fly to center tied the game 3-3 and stranded Singleton in scoring position.

Richie Cruz (Florida International) pitched an absolute gem for the Navigators, though he ended up getting a no decision. Cruz threw seven strong innings with a team high eight strikeouts and giving up three runs. Unfortunately, the Navs could not hold on to win as the Sharks plated one late run to just edge out the victory in the game.

The Navigators will host the Sharks again on Friday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. and will look to get back to their winning ways. Be sure to come out for the ballgame and catch a Firework display
