Be protected. #GloucesterHealthDepartmentMeasles is a highly contagious virus that starts with cold-like symptoms—fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes—followed by a red, blotchy rash.

Is it dangerous? Yes. It can cause pneumonia, deafness, brain swelling, and, in rare cases, death. Young children, pregnant women, and those with weak immune systems are most at risk. How does it spread? Through coughs, sneezes, and shared items. The virus stays in the air for up to 2 hours! 
Who’s at risk? Unvaccinated people, babies under 1, and some adults vaccinated before 1968.
