Fatal Crash in Bourne Involved Lynn Man, Not Hurt in Accident – State Police Report

BOURNE –  At approximately 04:07 p.m. Sunday, troopers from the State Police barracks in Bourne responded to a report of a crash on Route 28 Northbound, just prior to the Bourne Bridge, in Bourne, which resulted in the death of one person.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Earl Johnson of the Bourne Barracks indicates that a 2012 Freightliner was traveling on Route 28 northbound when it struck the rear of a 2014 Honda CR-V.  Also involved was a 2011 Acura MDX.

One of the occupants of the Honda, a 15-year-old girl, was transported by Boston Med flight to Rhode Island Hospital with life threatening injuries; she was later transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. A second occupant, a 61 year-old-female, was transported by Bourne EMS to Toby Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Three other occupants were transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries.

The operator of the Freightliner a 43-year-old-male from Lynn was uninjured.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification. We do not release the identities of survivors of crashes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Johnson is being assisted in this investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, D Troop CAT team and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. Also assisting on scene were members of Bourne Fire and EMS, and Massachusetts DOT.
