Fatal Andover Crash Tuesday Involved Marblehead Man – Local Man is OK and Did Not Cause Accident – Victim ID Released

UPDATE: The deceased victim in last nights fatal crash has been identified as George Sanborn, 75 of Andover.  No further information is currently available.

ANDOVER – (State Police Report) Today at about 5:00 p.m., State Police from Troop A responded to a crash involving a SUV and tractor trailer on Route 125 northbound in Andover.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Stephen Thompson indicates that a 2016 Freightliner Tractor Trailer was stopped at the traffic light at Gould Street and Route 125 in Andover when it was struck from behind by a 2009 Dodge Caravan, which was traveling on Route 125 southbound at the time. The force from the impact caused the trailer of the tractor trailer to hit the cab of the Freightliner cracking the rear window. As a result of the crash the Dodge became engulfed in flames.

Upon fire suppression by members of the Andover Fire Department, it was determined that the Dodge contained one occupant who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner, a 42-year-old man from Marblehead remained at the scene

Route 125 at Gould street was closed for approximately 3 ¼ hours to extinguish the fire, clear the road and conduct the investigation.

This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Andover Fire and police, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
