Essex Elementary School Recognized for Academic Progress by State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Superintendent Pam Beaudoin and Principal Kim Provost have announced that Essex Elementary School was named a School of Recognition by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Schools of Recognition are those that demonstrate progress toward annual accountability targets. Accountability targets are set at the school level to ensure all schools are continuing to improve and grow.

Progress indicators considered in the school’s accountability report include achievement and growth in various subjects, attendance, and other indicators.

Last school year, Essex Elementary School made 85 percent progress toward improvement targets.

State accountability ratings are scored through a multi-year rating. Essex’s cumulative target percentage is 59 percent, marking its progress as substantial.

Essex Elementary showed particular strengths in the areas of Math and Science achievement and student growth scores in both English and Math. Additionally, decreasing absenteeism rates exceeded target goals.

“It is an honor for our students, families, faculty, and staff to be recognized for their commitment to helping students progress in their education,” said Superintendent Beaudoin. “We are committed to continual improvement as a District.”
