Essex D.A.’s Office: Lynn Man Sentenced to 12 to 15 Years on Child Rape and Assault Charges

SALEM Today in Superior Court in Salem, Ivan Santos Lula, 56, of Lynn, was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison following his conviction on several child rape and assault charges. On Friday, August 16, an Essex County jury convicted Lula of two counts of rape of a child with force, two counts of rape of a child (aggravated by age difference), and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Lula was indicted in February of 2021.

Upon release, Lula will be subject to three years’ probation with special conditions including orders to stay away from the victim and the victim’s family, register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender treatment, and abstain from any unsupervised contact with any children under 18.

The Hon. Salim Tabit presided over the case. Upon sentencing, the judge noted the remarkable bravery of the victim in coming forward. The Commonwealth was represented by Kate MacDougall, Chief of Family Crimes and Sexual Assault Unit in the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker. The defendant was represented by attorney Mark Brunswick Schmidt.
