CHENG SUN CONVICTED

An Essex Superior Court jury returned guilty verdicts today after about 4 hours of deliberations convicting Cheng Sun, 51, Bronx, NY of first degree murder in connection with the murder of Shui Keung “Tony” Woo.  Sun was also found guilty of Stealing By Confinement and Assault to Rob a Person over 60 Years Old.

Woo, who was 62 at the time, was found beaten and stabbed to death in his Ipswich restaurant, The Majestic Dragon, on September 27, 2011.

Sentencing is scheduled for Monday, February 29, 2016 at 9:00 am.  It is expected that members of Mr. Woo’s family will give victim impact statements to the Court.

Mr. Sun’s co-defendant, Sifa Lee, 38, of Quincy, MA, is scheduled to stand trial on the same charges in early March.  A hearing on that case is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2nd at noon in Salem Superior Court.

CHISM SENTENCING HEARING SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY AT 9:30
