MILTON, Mass. – The No. 9/10 nationally ranked Endicott men’s ice hockey team defeated Curry College, 6-4, in a league matchup on Saturday evening at Max Ulin Rink.

Tied 2-2 early on in the second period, Endicott tallied four straight goals to take a commanding 6-2 lead headed into the second intermission on tallies from Jack Kilty (Medway, Mass.), Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta), Jason Kalinowski (Stamford, Conn.), and Tommy Besinger (Milton, Mass.).

Despite allowing a pair of goals in the third, the Gulls outlasted the Colonels the rest of the way to move to 17-3-2 overall and 11-3-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The victory for Endicott also extended its winning streak to five games, and conversely, stopped Curry’s (12-8-2, 9-4-2 CCC) three-game winning streak in its tracks.

Gulls’ netminder Kevin Aldridge (Birgmingham, Mich.) made 36 saves in the win (15-3-2). Curry goaltender Brett Sinclair (St. Catharines, Ontario) stopped 29 shots in the loss (10-7-2).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls established a new single-season program record for wins tonight (16-9-2 in 2015-16).
  • Endicott is 3-1-0 in the all-time series against Curry.
  • The Gulls have won the last three matchups by a combined score 23-7.
  • Logan Day (Seminole, Fla.) tied up the contest at 1-1 in the first (12:17), and Kilty gave the Gulls their first of two leads on the night 38-seconds later in the period.

BEVERLY — The Endicott men’s basketball team came out firing for a pivotal 101 to 71 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon inside MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Hawks managed a nine-point edge with 15:08 remaining in the first half before Endicott took its first lead of the game, 31-30, with 5:25 to play on sophomore forward Vinny Clifford‘s (Danvers, Mass.) third of four three-pointers on the day for the major turning point and never looked back.

A 43-35 lead at the break turned into a second half clinic from downtown as the Gulls set a new single-game program record with 20 made three pointers, including 10 from long distance in the frame.

At halftime, the Special Olympics group from Lynn, Mass. played a basketball game as part of the “Be My Valentine” Special Olympics Showcase put on by senior guard Stephen Basden (Lynn, Mass.) and his teammates.

The Gulls exploded for 58 points in the second half — their largest total in a half this season — to lead by as much as 33 with 41 seconds left in the game. Freshman guard Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.) poured in a career-best 21 points to lead the floor.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott’s 101 points is the most the team has scored all season.
  • The Gulls’ 20-of-37 shooting from beyond the arc surpassed the team’s previous record of 17 that they tied earlier this season against Curry on Nov. 30, 2016.

  • Senior forward Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.) grabbed seven rebounds which was one shy of Roger Williams’ sophomore guard Austin Coene’s (Tyngsborough, Mass.) eight for the most in the game.
  • Walker dished out a game-best/career-high eight assists.
  • Endicott out-rebounded the Hawks, 51-35.

FOR THE FOES

  • Coene pulled down a game-high eight boards to go with a game-high four steals and 11 points for the Hawks.
  • Roger Williams placed three student-athletes in double figures as senior captain Andrew Wasik (Gainesville, Fla.) and junior guard Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, alongside Coene.
  • The Hawks had their four-game win streak snapped today.

BEVERLY The Endicott women’s basketball team celebrated a huge victory over visiting Roger Williams University, 55-41, Saturday afternoon inside MacDonald Gymnasium in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

The Gulls defeated the conference-leading Hawks for the first time since the 2014-15 season to earn the regular-season split this year and did so behind a staunch defensive effort and timely shooting, especially beyond the arc.

Endicott led throughout the contest, as the hosts held Roger Williams to just five points in the first quarter to match the Hawks’ lowest output in a single quarter this season.

The Gulls’ strong defensive effort kept the Hawks off the board until the 3:08 mark of the opening stanza when junior forward Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) sunk a free throw with Endicott leading, 15-1.

The Hawks  then used a 7-0 run midway through the second quarter to bring the score to within four, trailing 20-16, but the Gulls managed a 27-18 advantage at halftime.

Endicott was able to maintain a double-digit lead for most of the second half, thanks in part to an overall 23-11 forced turnover edge in the game to score 18 points off the Hawks’ mishaps and that proved to be the difference.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 17-15 overall and 11-5 at home against the Hawks in the all-time series.
  • Junior guard Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points with 14 of those points coming in the first half alone, on 6-of-14 made field goals (3-of-6 from three-point range) to go with four rebounds, one assist, and a game-best three steals.
  • Junior forward Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and tallied 12 points, while freshman guard Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) chipped in 10 points to round out the Gulls in double figures.
  • Endicott led by as much as 16 with 39 seconds remaining in the game.

  • Roger Williams has won seven of the past nine meetings, including a 66-42 win earlier this season on 01/17/17 in the most recent meeting before today.
  • Freshman guard Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) led the Hawks with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
  • Senior forward/center Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go with eight points, one assist, and a floor-leading three blocks.
  • The Hawks out-rebounded the Gulls by a 38-33 margin.

QUINCY, Mass. – The Endicott men’s volleyball team secured a swift 3-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene by scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-14 on Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.

With the win, the Gulls improved to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play. Meanwhile, Eastern Nazarene dropped to 3-2 overall/2-2 NECC in the setback.

The freshmen class of Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.), Tim Fieseler (Bridgewater, N.J.), Conner Holland (Derry, N.H.), Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.), and Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) highlighted the win as the group combined for 18 kills, 13 assists, 10 digs, and 13 block assists. Fieseler stood out among the quintet with eight kills on 14 swings (.357), three digs, and two block assists.

Defensively, Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tallied a match-high 16 digs. It marks the sixth time this season Healy has registered 10 or more digs in a match (16th career).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today’s match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
  • The first two sets only featured three tied scores and zero lead changes.
  • Set three saw five tied scores and two lead changes before Endicott erased an 8-5 deficit with a 7-0 run (12-8), and never looked back.
  • Dey finished with four kills, while Lipton added five, and Holland had one.
  • Riorden notched 13 assists and four digs.
  • Tyler Willgoos (Newington, Conn.) compiled five kills, three digs, and two block assists.

  • As a team, the Gulls had 13 blocks (tied season-high).

  • Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) paced the Lions with six kills, one assist, and seven digs.
  • Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) dished out 13 assists (tied for match-high).
  • Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) and Derek Fowler (Williamstown, N.J.) both had three kills.

Endicott (6-8, 1-0 NECC) travels to Lesley University on Wednesday, February 15 for a conference matchup at 8 PM. Eastern Nazarene (3-2, 2-2 NECC) hosts Regis College next Thursday in league play at 7 PM.
