Endicott College Sports Update: Baseball Steals 11 Bases in 9-6 Win Over Framingham, Men’s Tennis and Men’s Volleyball Also Win

BEVERLY – The Endicott baseball team stole a season-high 11 bases (second all-time) en route to claiming a 9-5 victory over Framingham State University on Wednesday evening at North Field.

Junior reliever Colby Morris (Newburyport, Mass.) earned the win via 2 2/3 scoreless innings out of the pen after entering the game with one out and runners on second and third in the top of the fifth. Endicott starter Brady Hall (Rockville, Md.) was handed the no-decision on four innings pitched, six hits, four runs (two earned), three walks and a career-high seven strikeouts.

Framingham State starter Chris Riga (Westfield, Mass.) took the loss on 3 2/3 innings, six hits, nine runs (six earned), four walks, and three punchouts. Blake Waters (East Sandwich, Mass.) was effective in relief as the freshman tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, alongside one hit, zero walks, and two punchouts.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning, the Gulls rallied for four runs on three hits (one error) and five stolen bases and never looked back. Chris Seidl (Dracut, Mass.) broke open the tie with a two-run double to right center, while Anthony Serina (Portsmouth, R.I.) made it 6-3 with a double to left center.

Serina then came around to score on a throwing error down the left field line after he successfully swiped third base, for his second of four stolen bases on the day.

The Gulls also tacked on two runs in the fourth on a Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) sacrifice fly to right field and a Corbin Hyde (Lewiston, Maine) RBI single to right field.

After Morris blanked the Rams for 2 2/3 innings, Victor Molle (Peabody, Mass.), Davarn Nova (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Nick Quattro (Canton, Conn.) closed out the remainder of the contest for Endicott (2 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K combined).

  • Endicott’s 11 stolen bases in today’s win ranks second all-time in program history.
  • Last season, the Gulls swiped a program-best 14 bases against Salem State in a 9-4 road win on April 9.

  • The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the contest via Josselyn who notched an RBI single through the left side of the infield and later scored on two stolen bases and a throwing error.
  • Wardwell had a run-producing double to right field in the second and an RBI ground out from Ryan Connelly (West Roxbury, Mass.) in the eighth to highlight the rest of Framingham State’s scoring.
  • The Rams’ single run in the fourth scored on a throwing error.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott men’s volleyball team picked up a thrilling five-set victory over Emmanuel College on Thursday night by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 15-12.

The Gulls’ offense, which featured four student-athletes with 10 kills or more, produced 65 total kills and a .233 hitting percentage in tonight’s win. John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) led the group with a team-high 19 putaways, while Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) notched 14 kills. Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) and Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) rounded out the group with 13 kills and 10 kills, respectively.

Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) ran the attack with a career-high 59 assists, while Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and Osborne spearheaded the defensive efforts as the duo tied for the team-high in digs with 14 apiece.

In the fifth set trailing 9-8, Toth helped spark the Gulls’ comeback with his 13th and final kill of the night off a feed from Little. Jeremy Doski (Sandy Hook, Conn.) followed with his sixth kill in the non-conference matchup (6 K, 1 E, 10 TA, .500) to make it 10-9 before both teams traded points to put the score at 13-12 in favor of Endicott.

Osborne then proceeded to give the Gulls a two-point cushion with his 19th kill of the contest, while Wasik and Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) locked up the win for Endicott on the next point with a huge block on Barrett Wingard’s (York, Pa.) attack attempt.

Tonight’s match featured 30 tied scores and 12 lead changes. The second set, which Endicott won 25-23, was the most competitive of the five as the Gulls and Saints played to nine ties and six lead changes before the Blue and Green pulled away with the score knotted up at 22-all.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Osborne fell one kill shy of tying his season-best performance of 20 kills vs. Lasell on Feb. 6 earlier this year.
  • Endicott is 15-7 in the all-time series against Emmanuel, which dates back to 1/27/2003.
  • The Gulls registered 10 blocks in tonight’s win, their fifth double-digit block output this season.
  • Little’s 59 assists fell four shy of cracking the top-10 all-time list at Endicott.

SALEM, Mass. – The Endicott men’s tennis team shut out Salem State University, 9-0, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at the Central Campus Tennis Courts.

Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) and Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) opened up the match with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, before the Gulls’ No. 1 and No. 3 pairings earned hard-fought victories in their respective slots to lock up a 3-0 advantage headed into singles play.

Eric Pierce (Barrington, R.I.) and Keaton McCleary (Newtown, Conn.) claimed an 8-4 win at No. 1 and Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) and Anthony Rinaldi (Attleboro Falls, Mass.) turned in a close 8-6 triumph at No. 3 to round out the doubles highlights.

In singles action, Pierce cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 slot to push Endicott’s lead to 4-0, while Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) locked up the match at the No. 1 position with a swift 6-0, 6-3 win.

Sam Salvas (Stowe, Vt.) followed with a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 5, and McCleary notched a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 to grab a 7-0 advantage. Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.) and Ozan Cermik (Cumberland, R.I.) concluded the non-conference match for the Gulls with wins at the No. 2 (6-2, 6-0) and No. 6 (6-4, 6-2) positions, respectively.
