Endicott Football Falls to Husson 28-7

BEVERLY – Husson University senior running back John Smith (Fayetteville, Ga.) compiled a single-game program record 301 rushing yards and also scored twice to lead the Eagles past Endicott, 28-7, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.
Husson raced out to a 28-0 advantage in the contest before Gulls’ sophomore fullback Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.) broke up the shutout with a one-yard TD plunge at the 12-minute mark of the third.
In the first quarter, Cory Brandon (Pembroke, Mass.) put the Eagles up 7-0 with a three-yard TD pass to DJ Allen (Skowhegan, Maine) at 6:56, and then the contest belonged to Smith.
The senior tailback pushed Husson ahead 14-0 with a 75-yard dash at 12:35 of the second and followed that up with another score for 11 yards at the 8:48 mark. Brandon and Allen went on to cap the Eagles’ offensive efforts on the day with 1:13 remaining in the first half with a five-yard TD connection.
As a team, Husson outgained Endicott 409-233 on 68 offensive plays (316 rushing | 93 passing) to improve to 3-1 on the year. Today’s game also marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
FOR ENDICOTT
Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) went 9-for-31 passing alongside 122 yards.
Zach DeNike (Old Tappan, N.J.) hauled in a team-high four catches for 66 yards (team-high).
Lavante Wiggins (Pittsfield, Mass.) paced the ground-game with 92 yards on 12 carries. Wiggins’ 62-yard rush in the third quarter also helped set up Fleming’s TD four plays later.
Defensively, William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) registered a game-high 15 tackles (eight solo, seven assisted, one sack, 3.0 TFL) and had one fumble recovery.
Zachary Poirier (Pawcatuck, Conn.) notched nine tackles (four solo, five assisted, 1.0 TFL), secured a fumble, and broke up two passes.
James Lewis (New Fairfield, Conn.) finished with eight tackles (three solo, five assisted, 0.5 TFL), and one forced fumble.
Brett Fox (Niantic, Conn.) logged 291 yards punting on eight attempts (36.4 average, long 50, three inside-20).
FOR HUSSON
Brandon went 11-for-21 passing for 93 yards and two passing touchdowns.
Smith rushed for his 301 record breaking yards and two touchdowns on 39 carries (7.7 yards per carry).
Smith held the previous record, which was 280 yards against Dean on September 16, 2016 (43-23 Husson).
Additionally, Smith has now rushed for 100 yards or more in 29 career games for the Eagles.
Allen ended the day with four catches for 18 yards and two scores
Kyree Calli (Harrisburg, Pa.) guided the receiving corps with four catches and 43 yards.
On defense, Husson broke up five passes, blocked one punt, and had four quarterback hurries.
Elvin Suazo, Jr. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Tarik Smith (Sunrise, Fla.) tied for the team-high in tackles with nine apiece (both had three solo stops, and nine assisted tackles).
Jean Gabriel (Lake Worth, Fla.) made four tackles (three solo), broke up one pass, and blocked a punt in the second quarter, which eventually set up Smith’s 11-yard TD run.
Jake Dobos (Northford, Conn.) broke up a game-high two passes to go along with four tackles (two solo).
WHAT’S NEXT
Endicott (1-4) travels to Western New England University on Saturday, October 14 for its first league game of the season at 1 PM. Husson (3-1) hosts SUNY Maritime next Saturday, September 7 at 1 PM


Men’s Soccer OT Tie 

BEVERLY – The Endicott men’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Western New England University in Hempstead Stadium on Saturday night.
The Golden Bears’ Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) picked up his 16th goal of the season at the 32:17 mark to put Western New England up 1-0.
At the 60:38 mark, Bobby Ivatts (Walpole, Mass.) took a penalty kick for the Gulls and recorded his first career goal to tie the contest at 1-1.
Both teams continued to pressure offensively throughout the remainder of regulation and in the first and second overtimes, but neither was able to find the go-ahead goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) made four saves to improve to 3-1-2 on the year.
The Gulls held the 18-11 shot advantage.
Endicott recorded five corners to Western New England’s three.
Dario Neukom (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), Rieley Hoffman (Watertown, N.Y.), and Jamie Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) paced the offense with three shots each.
The previous meeting between the two schools came during the 2016 Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinals. That contest also ended in a double overtime tie but the Golden Bears advanced in the tournament on penalty kicks.
FOR THE FOES
Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) shifted to 4-1-1 on the season with the tie.
Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Chris Manousos (Wethersfield, Conn.), and T. Remillard led the offense with two shots each.
WHAT’S NEXT
Endicott (6-1-2, 2-0-1) hosts Babson for a nonconference matchup on Tuesday, October 3 at 7 PM. Western New England (7-2-1, 2-0-1) travels to Clark University for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, October 4.


Women’s Soccer Wins Again 

BEVERLY – The Endicott women’s soccer team remained undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference Endicott Women's Soccer 9 2017(CCC) play on Saturday evening, taking down Western New England (WNE) 3-0 to improve to 2-0-1. Endicott, now 5-3-1 overall, is off until Saturday when they play host to cross-town rival Gordon at 1:00 p.m.
Endicott got the scoring started early when Hannah Pesci (Windham, N.H.) scored in the eighth minute. Pesci buried a beautiful cross from Larissa Cade (Middlefield, Conn.) to give the Gulls the 1-0 edge at the 7:24 mark.
Cade then doubled the Endicott lead roughly 10 minutes later as she scored her fourth of the season 16:51 into the first half. The sophomore was able to run on a perfect headed pass from Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) down the left sideline and took one touch before rifling a shot past the WNE keeper to give Endicott the 2-0 edge.
The scoring would stay quiet until mid-way through the second half when Pesci would score her second of the evening. Hanna & Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) worked a beautiful give and go in which the ball was dropped, then one-touched through to Pesci who took one touch herself and notched her third of the season.
Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) made four saves in the win, earning her third shutout of the season, and improving her record to 4-1-1.
BEYOND THE BOX
For Pesci, the two-goal effort against Western New Englad was the second of her career. As a freshman last season, Pesci also scored two in the team’s 4-0 win over the Golden Bears.
Hanna’s two assist effort was the first multi-assist match of her career.
The shutout helped lower Elwell’s goals against average to just 0.67 in 2017.
FOR THE FOES
Keeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) made six saves in the setback as her record fell to 4-5-1 overall.
Morgan Smith (Manchester, Conn.) led the Golden Bears with two shots, both of which were on goal.
WHAT’S NEXT
Endicott is off for a week until they play host to Gordon next Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. Western New England returns to play on Tuesday when they travel to Western Connecticut State for a 4:00 p.m. start.


 

Women’s Volleyball Falls to Roger Williams

BEVERLY – The Endicott women’s volleyball team suffered their first loss in conference play to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Roger Williams in a thrilling five-set match (15-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-10) Saturday afternoon in MacDonald Gymnasium.
Endicott captured the first two sets of the match before watching the Hawks come-from-behind to win and improve their season record to 9-6 (3-0 CCC).
Roger Williams was led offensively by sophomore outside Lara Lolacono (Lynbrook, N.Y.) who struck a team-high 16 kills with a .222 hitting percentage. Hawks middle hitter Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) added 11 kills but was most effective blocking at the net with one solo block and seven block assists.
Sophomore setter Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) stuffed the stat sheet with 36 assists, 10 digs, five block assists, and seven kills on 16 errorless attacks.
Gulls junior outside hitter Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) matched her career-high with 19 kills and was complemented by 15 kills by senior right side Lauren Sheehan (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and another 11 from sophomore outside Alex Dippel (Fallston, Md.).
Defensively for Endicott, senior libero Cydney Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif.) set a new season-high with 29 digs. She was one of four players with double-digit digs as setters Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) and Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) as well as freshmen defensive specialist Nichole Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) had at least 10 digs each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Mancini’s career-high of 19 kills has been achieved two other times in her career – Sept. 2, 2017 at Springfield and Nov. 11, 2016 versus Springfield in the NCAA First Round.
Pierce’s career-high for digs is 35 – set on Oct. 16, 2015 in a five-set win over Coast Guard.
The Gulls came out swinging with team hitting percentages of .125 and .275 in the first two sets but were limited in the final three, registering attack percentages of .105, .082, and .000, respectively in sets three through five.
Gifford dished out 43 assists in the loss, her third highest total this season. Her season-high is 45 assists in a 3-0 win over Dallas.
On the block, freshman Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) had a two solo blocks and two assisted blocks while junior middle Emily Diezemann (Peabody, Mass.) had a team-high three block assists.
FOR THE FOES
The rivalry between Endicott and Roger Williams is now even at 17-17 after today’s Hawks win. Roger Williams is now in sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
Roger Williams hit .000 as a team in the first set but turned things around quickly by registering .125, .306, .156, and .147 in the remaining sets.
Hawks libero, senior Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill.), paced her team’s defensive effort with 25 digs.
Grace Kenningham (Houston, Texas) was a presence with 19 digs while contributing eight kills offensively.
Junior outside hitter Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) factored in defensively in the match with 15 digs and three block assists.
WHAT’S NEXT
Endicott (10-6, 3-1 CCC) looks to rebound in their first match of the month of October at Gordon on Wednesday, October 4. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. Roger Williams (9-6, 3-0 CCC) travels to Western New England on the same night for a 7:00 p.m. tilt with the Golden Bears
