Football Loses at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. — The Endicott football team dropped a 41-14 conference decision to Salve Regina University (SRU) on Saturday afternoon at Toppa Field.
Salve Regina jumped out to a 21-0 lead with 10:20 remaining in the first half, and held on the rest of the way despite a valiant comeback attempt by the Gulls to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play this season. Endicott falls to 1-6 on the year and 0-2 in league action with the loss.
Danny McDermott (Franklin, Mass.) highlighted the victory for the Seahawks with three passing touchdowns and 321 yards on 14 completions (26 attempts, zero interceptions). Jake Gelb (Charlton, Mass.) also produced 156 yards and two touchdowns on the ground on just 13 carries.
FOR ENDICOTT
Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) completed 27 passes for 262 yards and one touchdown. Kalosky’s lone TD pass of the day went to Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.) for a seven-yard score at the 4:06 mark of the second quarter (21-7 SRU lead).
Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.) was responsible for the Gulls only other touchdown via a two-yard plunge with 9:15 to play in the fourth quarter (28-14 SRU lead). Fleming finished the day with 30 yards and his score on nine carries.
Stanley caught five passes for 66 yards (13.2 average, 23 long) alongside his touchdown catch in the second quarter.
Zach DeNike (Old Tappan, N.J.) hauled in a game-high eight catches for 30 yards.
Brett Sherman (Northborough, Mass.) paced the Gulls in receiving yards with 70 total on four grabs (17.5 average).
Devin Bower (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) compiled a career-high seven tackles (five solo, two assisted).
Noah Fearnley (Orange, Conn.) and William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) ranked second on the squad with five tackles each.
The Gulls registered six tackles for a loss, highlighted by Sam Opont (Bridgeport, Conn.) who logged two total.
FOR SALVE REGINA
The Seahawks put together 541 yards of total offense (349 passing, 192 rushing) and went 9-for-13 (69%) on third down.
Brendan Nunes (Attleboro, Mass.), Connor Sullivan (Lowell, Mass.), and Tommy Seaver (Rocky Hill, Conn.) all had reception touchdowns. Tunes had three catches for 97 yards (32.3 average), while Sullivan brought in four catches for 96 yards, and Seaver notched three catches for 75 yards.
Tyler D’Errico (Cheshire, Conn.) had a game-high nine tackles (three solo, six assisted).
Tristen Perez (Framingham, Mass.) was second on the team with seven stops (six solo, one assisted).

Men’s Soccer Falls 

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Endicott men’s soccer team was handed a close 1-0 loss by the University of New England on Saturday afternoon.
The game remained scoreless until the 76th minute when UNE’s Colin Madigan (Canton, Conn.) headed in a free kick from Lee Esposito (Niskayuna, N.Y.).
Although the Gulls continued to pressure offensively and saw a few scoring opportunities in the closing minutes, the Nor’easters were able to keep Endicott from notching the tying goal.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) recorded two saves during the contest and shifted to 6-3-3 on the season.
The Gulls held a 16-9 shot advantage.
Endicott recorded 10 corner kicks, while UNE had three.
Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) led the offense with six shots, while Max Robbins (Longmeadow, Mass.) was close behind with four.
FOR THE FOES
Nathan Delesdernier (Niantic, Conn.) improved to 4-7-0 on the season and made three saves.
Dexter Doucet (Newmarket, N.H.) paced the offense with two shots.

Women’s Soccer Wins

BIDDEFORD, Maine – With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, Brady Sezon (Easton, Conn.) scored her second of the season to lift the Endicott women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the University of New England. With the win, Endicott remains undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, improving to 7-0-1, and 10-4-1 overall, while UNE falls to 2-5-1 in CCC play and 7-8-2 overall.
At the 86:28 mark, Sezon was able to take a pass back from Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) and put her shot into the upper left corner to give Endicott the 2-1 advantage. The goal was also Sezon’s second career game-winner, the first of which came last year against Springfield.
The assist was Hanna’s third point of the match, as the first two came at the 15:35 mark of the first half, when she scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season. The senior forward was able to work a give and go with junior Mary Verneris (Hamden, Conn.) to give the Gulls the early 1-0 lead. Hanna’s goal was also her seventh of the season in CCC play, which ties her with Verneris for first among all CCC players.
The Nor’Easters got on the board in the 61st minute when Katie Beaudoin (Coventry, R.I.) scored her 14th goal of the season. Her shot from the top of the box snuck into the top left corner of the net to even the score at 1-1, in what would be the only offense UNE could account for all day.
BEYOND THE BOX
Endicott is now 15-10-1 all-time against UNE, having won the last two meetings between the two schools.
Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) made five saves in the victory as her personal record improved to 9-2-1 on the season.
Hanna now has 13 goals and 6 assists on the season for a total of 32 points. Her 32 points lead all CCC players.
The Gulls out-shot the Nor’Easters 19-14, while both squads earned three corners.
With 10 wins now on the season, Jodi Kenyon has achieved 10 wins or more in 12 of her 13 seasons. Today’s win now gives her 185 career victories as the head coach of the Endicott Gulls.
FOR THE FOES
Emily Ashman (Madison, Conn.) made seven saves in net for the Nor’Easters as her record fell to 4-6-1.
Becca Murphy (Durham, N.H.) finished with four shots in the match, two of which were on goal.

Endicott plays host to the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors at 2:00 p.m. for Senior Day when Endicott will honor their 10 seniors. The Nor’Easters are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Dudley, Mass. for a 3:00 p.m. start against Nichols


Field Hockey Wins 

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team recorded a 5-1 victory over Western New England on Saturday afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium.
Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) gave the Gulls a 1-0 lead on a penalty shot at 9:53.
With less than three minutes remaining in the first half, Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) extended the lead to 2-0.
At the 48:58 mark, Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) tallied a goal with help from Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.).
Hirtle then added a goal of her own just over two minutes later to give Endicott the 4-0 lead.
The Gull’s fifth goal of the game came at 54:55 when Jaylin Grabau (Lynnfield, Mass.) set up Cogliano for her second goal of the game.
Western New England responded with a goal from Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) to cut the deficit to 5-1 with just over six minutes remaining in regulation but the Gull defense was able to halt any further scoring chances to secure the victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) improved to 13-3 on the season and made seven saves during the contest.
Endicott held the slight 12-11 shot advantage.
The Gulls had seven corner opportunities, while the Golden Bears recorded six.
Cogliano paced the offense with three shots.
FOR THE FOES
Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) shifted to 5-8 with the loss and recorded three saves.
Dominique Corveddu (Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) also saw action in net for the Golden Bears and made three saves.
DeLima led the offense with four shots.

Volleyball Wins 

DUDLEY, Mass. – Behind a career-high .556 average from freshman Meghan Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.), the Endicott women’s volleyball team swept Nichols 3-0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-20) to improve to 16-9 overall, and 7-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.
The Gulls took the first set 25-9 after hitting .231 with 11 kills and limiting Nichols to just three kills while holding the Bison to a -.080 average. Endicott then took the second and third sets by closer margins of 25-19 and 25-20, while still posting 10 and 14 kills offensively in the two sets.
Frederick’s .556 average came from six kills on nine swings with just one error. She rounded out her performance with two digs, two assists and one assist block. Sophomore Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.) tied for the match-high with her seven kill effort while also chipping in a career-high 11 digs. Tying her with 11 digs for the match-high mark was Nichole Trudon (Coventry, Conn.), while senior libero Cydney Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif.) finished with nine digs in just two sets of play.
BEYOND THE BOX
Endicott improved to 2-0 all-time against Nichols while today’s victory was the first in Dudley, Mass. for the Gulls.
Middles Araya Lessard (Cromwell, Conn.) and Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) combined to hit .429 in the match, with Lessard posting a 5-1-8 (.500) line, Winkler finishing with a 3-0-4 (.750) line in one set of action, and Boltromiejuk posting a 4-2-9 (.222) line.
Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) recorded five kills and five digs in her one set played as the junior now has 334 kills on the season.
Setters Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.), Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.), and Emma Jutras (Cranston, R.I.) combined for 25 assists, seven digs and three aces in the win.
FOR THE FOES
Megan Gardner (South Deerfield, Mass.) finished with seven kills to tie for the match-high mark.
J’Ena Baker (Rockledge, Fla.) finished with eight digs and five kills, while Jayla Simmons (Rockledge, Fla.) finished with a team-best nine digs.
