Endicott College Football Wins 35-14 at Maine Maritime – More Scores and Endicott Team Updates

CASTINE, Maine – Behind a season-high 464 yards of total offense, the Endicott football team remained undefeated in New England Football Conference (NEFC) play with a 35-14 victory against Maine Maritime at Ritchie Field.

Quarterbacks Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) and Michael Scherer (Middlefield, Conn.) combined for 317 yards passing and four touchdowns, while Lavante Wiggins (Pittsfield, Mass.) punched home his team-leading fifth rushing touchdown of the season to highlight the Gulls’ win.

Endicott also saw Conor Crotty (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Zach DeNike (Old Tappan, N.J.), Jake Pelletier (Trumbull, Conn.), and Greg Ruff (Saco, Maine) all haul in touchdown passes.

ENDICOTT OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  • The Gulls erased a 7-0 deficit early on in the first quarter with a 33-yard TD run from Wiggins and never looked back. Wiggins finished the contest 65 yards on 11 rushing attempts and one score.
  • Ruff (10 yards), Pelletier (10 yards), Crotty (27 yards), and DeNike (78 yards) all followed with receiving touchdowns from the second quarter to the fourth to pull ahead 35-7 with 5:38 left to play in the contest.
  • DeNike’s 78-yard TD reception is the longest offensive score for the Gulls this season (McLaughlin, 80-yard interception TD).
  • Both of Crotty’s scores this year have come over 20 yards.
  • Crotty, DeNike, Pelletier, and Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) all finished with 60 or more yards receiving.
  • Kalosky ended his first career start with 248 yards passing, and three touchdowns on nine completions (12 attempts, .750 completion percentage). He also rushed twice for 16 yards (one first down).
  • John Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.), and William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) tied for the team lead in tackles with 10 each.
  • Rivera also recorded a fumble recovery and picked off a pass at the end of the first half.
  • Grayson Maddux (Park City, Utah) compiled seven tackles (four solo, 0.5 TFL), and one pass breakup.
  • Brett Fox (Niantic, Conn.) aided the Gulls in field position as the junior punter put two of his three attempts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

MAINE MARITIME OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  • James Ferrar (Cumberland, Maine) got Maine Maritime on the board first with a 15-yard touchdown run at the 4:24 mark of the first quarter.
  • Corey Creeger (Biddeford, Maine) added the Mariners final score at 3:02 of the fourth quarter on a two-yard scamper into the end zone.
  • Creeger closed out the game with 195 yards passing, and 95 yards rushing (both team highs), while Ferrar had 68 yards on the ground.
  • Joel Bennett (Chelsea, Maine) and Jordan Susi (South Portland, Maine) both tallied 80 yards or more receiving in the loss.
  • Cody Chapman (Bangor, Maine) recorded a team-high nine tackles (seven solo, two TFL), and one pass breakup to lead the Mariners defensively.
  • Robert Bradley, Jr. (Slidell, La.) also added eight tackles (five solo, one TFL).
  • John Bennett (Chelsea, Maine) and Joshua Crouse (Old Town, Maine) rounded out the list of highlights for the Mariners as both student-athletes picked off pass apiece.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — The Endicott field hockey team fell, 4-3, to the host Salve Regina Seahawks in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday evening at Gaudet Field in the Play 4 the Cure game.

Endicott scored first as junior forward Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) buried her first of two markers on the day to give the Gulls an early 1-0 lead in the 8th minute.

Salve Regina struck back to go up 2-1 at the half before Larson knotted the score at 2-2 in the 36th minute coming out of the break.

Senior midfielder Sarah Thompson (Clinton, Conn.) registered the go-ahead goal for the Seahawks in the 51st minute that proved to be the difference, despite the two teams trading goals down the stretch.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott and Salve Regina split the regular-season series, as the Gulls downed the Seahawks, 6-3, on 10/01/16 in the most recent meeting before today.
  • Endicott still leads the all-time series, 20-4, dating back to the 2003 season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) made 10 saves as she fell to 7-8 overall and 6-3 CCC on the year.
  • Ventura has made ten more or saves in four games this season.
  • Ventura now has 258 career saves, surpassing current assistant coach Chelsea DeFeo for fourth on the program’s all-time list.
  • Larson scored twice for the second time this season.
  • Junior defender Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.) tallied her second assist of the season, while sophomore defender Maggie O’Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded her first career assist.
  • Junior midfielder Melanie Kaleta (Bellingham, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season in the 58th minute.

FOR THE FOES

  • Junior goalie Jessie Severino (Bradford, Conn.) made a game-high 15 saves as she improved to 8-6 on the season.
  • Junior midfielder Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) registered her CCC-leading 16th goal of the season and also paces the conference with 40 points this season.
  • Four student-athletes scored for Salve Regina; Amber Cody, freshman forward Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.), Thompson, and junior forward Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.).

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott women’s soccer team scored two goals in each half while the defense allowed just one shot on goal as the Gulls claimed a 4-0 road win on Saturday. 

With the win, Endicott is now 10-2-2 on the season and 5-1-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. Western New England (WNE) falls to 5-9-2 overall and 2-4-0 in conference.

The Gulls saw sophomore Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) score her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 29th minute to give Endicott the 1-0 lead mid-way through the first half. Pernice’s header off of the corner from Abigail Silverstein (Katonah, N.Y.) would prove to be her third game-winner of the season, tying her with teammate Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) for the team lead.

Freshman Larissa Cade (Middlefield, Conn.) notched her fourth goal of the season in the 43rd minute that would give the Gulls a 2-0 lead heading into the break. Endicott’s defense was stifling throughout, but especially so in the first half as the Gulls allowed just one shot in the first 45 minutes of play.

Endicott would see freshman Hannah Pesci (Windham, N.H.) post two goals in the second half to provide the rest of the scoring for the match to give Endicott the 4-0 win. Pesci’s first goal came at the 68:37 mark of the match to give her five goals on the season. The talented first year players wouldn’t hesitate to strike again, registering her sixth of the season less than four minutes later. 

Goalie Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) would make just one save in the win, improving her personal record to 10-2-1 on the season as she now has five shutouts on the season.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Endicott is now 11-4 all-time against WNE as the Gulls have claimed the last three matches by a combined score of 7-0. The Gulls have won 11 of the last 12 dating back to 2008 and have out-scored the Golden Bears 25-5 over that stretch.
  • Pernice is now tied for the conference lead with three game winners, joining teammate Rachel Hanna and four other women. The sophomore is also tied for second in the league with 18 points (7 goals, 4 assists).
  • Armbruster’s fifth shutout on the season gives her 10 for her career as she has already matched last season’s total. 
  • Endicott currently has the highest goals per game average in the CCC, posting 2.71 goals per game on the season (38 goals in 13 matches), and the second-best goals against average of just 0.68.

FOR THE FOES

  • Keeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) made four saves on the six shots she faced as she fell to 5-8-1 on the season.
  • Katelyn Cummings (Feeding Hills, Mass.) registered the lone shot on goal for the Golden Bears.

Endicott returns to the Nest for their final home match of the regular season as the Gulls will host the Nor’Easters of UNE on Wedensday at 7:00 p.m. Western New England hosts Curry on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.


WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to knock off host Wellesley 3-2 Saturday morning before falling to Ithaca 3-0 to cap off the Wellesley Invitational.

With the split, Endicott is now 15-11 on the season as the Gulls will face only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponents for the rest of the regular season.

MATCH ONE: Endicott 3 Wellesley 2 (14-25, 25-19 , 22-25, 25-23, 15-13)

Endicott claimed their first match of the day, rallying to defeat the hosts in a five set thriller. The Gulls were led by freshman outside Alex Dippel (Fallston, Md.) who recorded a career-high 14 kills on 51 swings to go with 12 digs. The double-double performance was also the first of her collegiate career. 

Setters Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) and Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) combined to post 40 assists and 24 digs in the win as the Gulls hit .211 for the match. 

BEYOND THE BOX

  • In the sets that the Gulls won, the team hit .308, .289 and .280 compared to just the .040 and .103 averages in the first and third that they lost.
  • It was the second five set victory of the season for the Gulls, the first of which came last weeknd when Endicott defeated Westfield State at the Springfield Invitational.
  • Erika Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) finished with a team-high 17 digs, extending her streak of double-digit dig performances to eight matches.
  • Right side Lauren Sheehan (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) finished with 10 kills and just one error on 28 swings to finish with a .321 average. Senior middle Rasa Hamel (Clinton, Conn.) was the only other Gull to hit over .300 in the match as she posted a .312 performance with seven kills and two errors on 16 swings to go with five assist blocks.
  • Each of the last three meetings between the two programs has gone to five sets with Endicott winning two of them.

FOR THE FOES

  • Freshman Meaghan Shoop (Cypress, Calif.) led all players with 18 kills on 39 swings. The outside comitted only three hitting errors to hit .389 for the match to go with five digs.
  • Setter Michelle Li (Scarsdale, N.Y.) posted a match-best 48 assists in the setback. The 48 assists tied her career high that she posted last season against Ithaca, in a five set win.
  • Samantha Hoang (Elk Grove, Calif.) posted 31 digs against the Gulls as the libero set a new career high.

MATCH TWO: Ithaca 3 Endicott 0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-19)

Endicott fell to Ithaca 3-0 on Saturday to finish the Wellesley Invitational 1-2. The Bombers were dominant in the match, hitting at a .338 clip as a team while also holding the Gulls to a .095 average defensively.

Freshman Alex Dippel again led the Endicott attack, posting team-bests in kills (8) and hitting percentage (.417). 

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Senior outside Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) tied with Dippel for the team-high in kills with eight while also adding two digs and an ace.
  • Libero Erika Trudon finished with nine digs in the setback while Mareena Clotfelter led the team with 16 assists.
  • Freshman Zoey Gifford finished with 13 assists to go with five digs which was good for second on the team.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Bombers were led by Taylor McCarthy (Pawling, N.Y.) who finished with eight kills on 14 swings as the freshman hit .429 for the match.
  • Caitlyn Floyd (Mahwah, N.J.) and Amanda Cerruti (West Islip, N.Y.) finished with seven kills each. Floyd, operating as a setter/right side in the 6-2, also added 13 assists, while Cerruti, a middle, finished with three assist blocks.
  • Endicott is now 0-2 all-time against Ithaca, having dropped the only previous meeting 3-1 in 2010.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Gulls have four matches remaining on the season, all against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents. Endicott starts off that stretch by next traveling to Western New England on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. start. 


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott men’s cross country team took fifth place out of 21 teams on Saturday afternoon at the Western New England University (WNEU) Invitational. Today’s 8-kilometer layout at WNEU will also serve as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship course on Saturday, October 29.

SUNY Delhi captured top honors among all 21 teams competing in today’s invitational by scoring 34 points – which included four finishes inside the top-10. The University of New England took second (115), and Westfield State finished third (119), while Worcester State rounded out the top-5 along with Endicott as the Lancers edged the Gulls, 130-157.

Individually for Endicott, Zach Marshall (Hinesburg, Vt.) placed 10th overall with a time of 27:28 to pace the squad.

Patrick Finocchiaro (Salem, N.H.) followed closely behind Marshall in 13th place (27:37), while James Dwyer (Berlin, Conn.) crossed the finish line in 27:41 to rank 16th out of 193 runners.

Adam Germaine (Guilford, Conn.) and Brendan Sasse (Westport, Mass.) concluded the Gulls’ top-5 with times of 29:16 (57th overall) and 29:36 (67th overall), respectively.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Marshall finished first overall for the Gulls for the second time this season in today’s race. As a sophomore, Marshall led Endicott in six out of seven meets.
  • Finocchiaro has finished third or better on the team in four races this year.
  • His second place finish today was his best on the team this fall.

Endicott takes a week off before returning to competition at the CCC championships on Saturday, October 29 at WNEU in Springfield, Mass.


SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott women’s cross country team posted a fourth place finish out of 22 teams on Saturday afternoon at the Western New England University (WNEU) Invitational.

The University of New England (UNE) ranked first overall on today’s 5-kilometer course as the Nor’easters lineup swept the top-3 spots, and also claimed fifth and sixth overall, respectively, for a score of 17 points.

Roger Williams (126), Westfield State (150), Endicott (158), and SUNY Cobleskill (175) rounded out the top-5.

Individually for Endicott, Abigail Keim (Williston, Vt.) placed 11th overall with a time of 20:14 to pace the squad.

Kiera Malone (Woburn, Mass.) finished 16th out of 242 runners with a time of 20:26 to follow Keim, while Laura Pomeroy (Windham, N.H.) was 35th overall in 21:02.

Maeve Kelly (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and Kelly O’Neill (Cumberland, R.I.) rounded out Endicott’s top-5 with times of 21:35 (52nd overall) and 21:43 (58th overall), respectively.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Keim was the first non-UNE runner to finish among the remaining CCC competitors in today’s race.
  • Keim also ran her fastest 5k time this season by more than 25-seconds.
  • Much like Keim, Malone set a 5k new season best today surpassing her previous time of 21:12 set at the UNE Invitational earlier this fall.
