Endicott College Football Falls at Home to Powerful St. Lawrence 38-0 / Volleyball Loses / Women’s Tennis & Field Hockey Win

BEVERLY – St. Lawrence University extended its shutout streak to three straight games on Saturday afternoon with a 38-0 win over Endicott at Hempstead Stadium.

So far this season, the Saints have held SUNY Morrisville (28-0), Norwich (52-0), and Endicott (38-0) off of the scoreboard for a total of 180 minutes played. However, their scoreless streak currently stands at 200:49 when dating back to last season. St. Lawrence has not given up a single point since the 9:11 mark of the third quarter from its NCAA Tournament matchup versus eventual Division III champion Mount Union on November 21, 2015.

In today’s game, St. Lawrence limited the Gulls to a season-low 153 yards of total offense, and also used a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown by senior linebacker Jayson Leigh (Poughquag, N.Y.) at 9:20 of the second quarter to seize all momentum in the contest. A nine play, 99-yard touchdown drive (3:07) at the tail end of the first half (2:30), which ended in a six-yard TD reception for reigning D3football.com Team of the Week selection Vincenzo Ferraro (Greenwich, Conn.), put the final nail in the coffin for the Gulls.

ENDICOTT OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Freshman quarterback Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) went 9-for-19 passing to go along with 97 yards in a backup roll.
  • Classmate Zach DeNike (Old Tappan, N.J.) hauled in four receptions for a career-high 40 yards.
  • Conor Crotty (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the squad with 45 yards receiving.
  • Senior Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) punted six times for 249 yards. One of his punts went 60 yards, while three were planted inside the 20-yard line, and another went for a touchback.
  • Junior Zachary Poirier (Pawcatuck, Conn.) paced the defensive unit with 10 tackles (six solo, four unassisted).
  • Christian Martinez (Tariffville, Conn.) compiled six tackles (0.5 for a loss), and two pass breakups.
  • Freshman Jesse Simoni (East Greenbush, N.Y.) notched five tackles (four solo), a pair of pass breakups, and one interception – which came in the right corner of the end zone with less than five minutes to play in the third.
  • William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) and Grayson Maddux (Park City, Utah) both blocked punts in the loss.

ST. LAWRENCE OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  • St. Lawrence limited the Gulls to a season-low 153 yards of total offense.
  • Offensively, the Saints accumulated 398 yards – 162 on the ground and 236 through the air.
  • Rodrick Payne (Buffalo, N.Y.) logged his first career 100-yard rushing game with 114 yards total on 21 attempts.
  • Sean Richardson (East Syracuse, N.Y.) threw for two touchdowns (one interception), and also completed 24 of his 32 passes (75-percent).
  • Ferraro led all receivers in the contest with eight catches for 85 yards and one TD.
  • Chyron Brown-Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.), Alec Dietsch (Clarence, N.Y.), and Skyler Williamson (Canton, Conn.) tied for the team-lead in tackles with eight apiece.
  • Dietsch also added a pass breakup, while Brown-Wallace had one sack, and Willamson recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery.
  • Leigh finished the game with three assisted tackles, 0.5 sacks, and his 90-yard pick six.
  • Scott Arens (Centerport, N.Y.) had two pass breakups (team-high).

  • The Saints are currently receiving votes in the D3football.com national top-25 poll.

NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Endicott women’s volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, falling to Clark in five before falling to Coast Guard in four. Endicott (7-5) is now off until Tuesday when they host the University of New England in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener.

MATCH ONE: Clark 3 Endicott 2 (22-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-12, 15-9)
The Gulls would start strong offensively, hitting well over .300 in each of the first three sets. The Gulls took the first 25-22 while hitting .366 (15-0-41) before dropping the tight second, 26-24, despite hitting .359 (16-2-39). Endicott then took a 2-1 lead after taking the third, 25-19 thanks in part to a .319 hitting percentage (16-1-47). Up 2-1 and looking to close out the match in the fourth, the Gulls would struggle offensively, posting a -.143 percentage (2-6-28) before the Cougars claimed the match 3-2 by taking a 15-9 fifth.
 
BEYOND THE BOX
  • Lauren Sheehan (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) led the Gulls in kills with 15 in the setback. It is the sixth straight match, and seventh total time, that Sheehan has led the Gulls this season.
  • The Gulls saw three players reach double-digit dig totals in Mackenzie Kennedy (Andover, Mass.), Cydney Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif.) and Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.). Kennedy led the team with 17 while Pierce was close behind, posting 15 in the loss. Clotfelter recorded 10 digs while also registering 23 assists for the double-double.
  • Freshman Zoey Gifford (Natick, Mass.) pitched in 19 assists and five digs on the night while sophomore middle Emily Diezemann (Peabody, Mass.) logged a match-best five assist blocks.
  • Endicott still holds a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series as this was the first meeting between the two institutions since 2005. Prior to 2016, the Gulls had won four straight meetings dating back to 2002. 
FOR THE FOES
  • Clark was led by Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Jackie Jiminez-Maldo (San Francisco, Calif.) who combined for 37 kills in the win. Ramos posted a team best 20 to go accompany 22 digs while Jiminez-Maldo notched 17 kills to go with three digs.
  • Sophomore Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas) logged a match-high 50 assists while libero Maria Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led all players with 32 digs, six shy of her career best that she posted in the team’s 3-1 win over Salve Regina last season.
  • The Cougars held the advantage in kills (72-55), hitting percentage (.243 to .224) and digs (97-71) to improve to 8-4 on the season.
MATCH TWO: Coast Guard 3 Endicott 1 (25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17)
 
Endicott would drop the second match of the tri-match to host Coast Guard 3-1 to finish the weekend with a 7-5 record heading into CCC play. The Gulls battled in the first two sets, dropping both by scores of 25-20 and 25-22 before claiming the third 25-22 to force extra frames. The Gulls would then fall in the fourth 25-17 to the Bears to lose the match. 
BEYOND THE BOX
  • Senior outside Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) tied for the match-high in kills with 14 and earned a double-double with 11 digs.
  • Pin hitter Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) grabbed 10 kills in the loss to go with five digs while fellow sophomore Emily Diezemann posted two solo blocks and four kills in the match.
  • Setters Zoey Gifford and Mareena Clotfelter combined to record 36 assists in the setback, with Gifford leading the way with 21.
  • Libero Mackenzie Kennedy grabbed 10 digs to extend her streak of double-digit dig performances to seven.
FOR THE FOES
  • The Bears’ Emma Saunders (LaGrange, Ill.) tied with McIntyre with 14 kills in the win while the right side also recorded a .407 hitting percentage in the win. 
  • Setters Makenna Martin (Granbury, Texas) and Hailye Reynolds (Groesbeck, Texas) combined for 44 assists in the match with Martin putting up 26 of them.
  • Michelle McGill (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) and Reynolds tied for the team-high in digs with 10.
WHAT’S NEXT
Endicott (7-5) returns home for two straight conference contests as the Gulls host the University of New England on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. before hosting Salve Regina at home on Saturday as part of Endicott’s Homecoming Weekend at 3:00 p.m.

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Endicott women’s tennis team bested Salve Regina University, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at the Antone Academic Center.

Seniors Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.), and sophomores Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine), Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.), and Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) all were double winners for the Gulls, while Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) and Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) picked up victories in singles and doubles play, respectively.

As a team, Endicott only dropped eight games in singles, and six games in doubles.

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Endicott field hockey defeated host Roger Williams University Hawks, 2-0, on the road in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

Junior midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season (unassisted) as she tipped in a rebounded ball in the 17th minute to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead they carried to the half.

Sophomore defender Maggie O’Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) added an insurance goal in the 67th minute on a feed from junior midfielder Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) to seal the deal for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott leads the all-time series, 6-1, dating back to the 2013 season (3-1 on the road).
  • The Gulls have outscored the Hawks, 26-5 in this span.
  • M. Wood tallied her first assist of the season, while O’Reilly notched her third goal of the year.
  • Senior goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.)stopped four shots as she improved to 3-2 (2-0 CCC) and picked up her first shutout of the season.

  • The Gulls split the season series with the Hawks in 2015 by winning at home (W, 2-1) and losing on the road (L, 1-0) in the most recent meeting before today on 10/17/15.
