Endicott College Baseball Splits DH vs. Wesleyan – Men’s Lacrosse Wins – Men’s Volleyball Wins League Title – Women’s Tennis Falls

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Endicott baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Wesleyan (Conn.) on Saturday evening at Dresser Diamond. Endicott fell in game one, 6-3, but rebounded in game two with a decisive 16-4 victory to earn the split. Game one of today’s doubleheader was seven innings, while game two was a full nine. 

GAME ONE: Wesleyan 6, Endicott 3 

Mike McCaffrey (Warwick, R.I.) earned the win on six innings pitched, four hits, three runs (two earned), five walks, and seven strikeouts. Ryan Earle (Hanover, Mass.) collected his second save of the season with a clean seventh inning, which included one strikeout. 

Colby Morris (Newburyport, Mass.) took the loss via four innings of work, five hits, four runs (two earned), and two free passes. 

The Cardinals erased an early 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the first with a three-run frame, highlighted by an RBI triple from Matt Jeye (Holliston, Mass.) and a run-producing single by Nick Miceli (West Hartford, Conn.)

Wesleyan also added solo runs in the last three innings of game one to lock up the victory. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) had a two-run single in the fifth. He finished 1-for-3 with two RBI from the cleanup spot in the lineup. It marks his second multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) gave Endicott a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single to center. 

FOR THE FOES

  • Will O’Sullivan (Needham, Mass.), Jeye, and Alec Olmstead (Palo Alto, Calif.) all had multi-hit games.
  • Jeye led the group with two RBI, while O’Sullivan tied Miceli for the game-high in runs scored with two. 

GAME TWO: Endicott 16, Wesleyan 4 

The Gulls responded in game two with a season-high 16 runs to secure a split with Wesleyan. 

Chris Seidl (Dracut, Mass.) gave Endicott a lift in the first inning with a three-run bomb, while Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) headlined a six-run third inning for the Gulls with a two-run single to right field. 

Endicott also added five runs in the eighth keyed by a solo homer from Kochiss and a two-run triple from Joseph Deutsch (Fairfield, Conn.)

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Seven Endicott student-athletes registered multi-hit games, led by Kochiss who went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and one RBI.
  • DeDonato was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI (sixth multi-RBI game of the year).
  • Seidl knocked in a career-high six RBI. His previous career-high was five set on May 3, 2016 against Saint Joseph’s (Me.). 

FOR THE FOES

  • Jeye went 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI in the loss.
  • Jesse Levy-Rubinett (Austin, Texas) was 2-for-2 with one run scored and one walk.

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men’s lacrosse team posted a 20-11 league victory over Curry College on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium on Senior Day. 

Prior to today’s game, seniors Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.), Carter Glenn (Underhill, Vt.), Thomas Harvey (Huntington, N.Y.), Shane Hughes (York Beach, Maine), Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.), Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.), Patrick Shelley (Poland, Maine), and Kenny Sturgess (Hampstead, N.H.) were all honored for their contributions towards the men’s lacrosse program and the Endicott Community in a pre-game ceremony. 

Jennings paced the Gulls in their seventh straight victory (7-6, 7-0 CCC) with seven goals, four assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Bryan McManus (Madison, Conn.) added four tallies, while freshman Will Clark (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) put together a career day with three goals and three assists for six points (all career-highs). 

Luke Wallahan (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) and Teddy Hannon (Duxbury, Mass.) added two goals apiece, while Bannon also had one goal and dished out three assists. Connor Frazier (Reading, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with his first career goal with 3:55 left to play in the contest. 

Grant Thompson (South Hamilton, Mass.) stopped eight shots in the win (7-3), and Shane O’Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) had 15 saves in the loss (4-3). 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 23-1 in the all-time series versus Curry.
  • The Gulls erased an 8-7 deficit in the second half with a 7-0 run in the third quarter that spanned from the 11:20 mark to the 2:21 mark (8:59). Clark and Jennings both spearheaded the offensive spurt with two goals each.
  • T. Hughes went 24-for-33 at the face-off X and scooped up a career-high 21 ground balls.
  • Endicott went 14-for-15 on clears.
  • Jennings fell one point shy of tying his single-game program record (12 vs. Nichols on April 5, 2017).

FOR THE FOES

  • Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.) notched a team-high four goals.
  • MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) finished second on the team with two tallies.
  • Chris Bronander (Glen Ridge, N.J.) registered a game-high four caused turnovers.

BEVERLY, Mass. – The first-seeded Endicott men’s volleyball team captured its fifth straight New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title with a 3-0 victory over third-seeded Elms by scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 28-26 on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) earned NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors for Endicott as the senior middle compiled 18 kills (3.00 k/s), a .467 hitting percentage, one service ace, 10 blocks (one solo, nine assisted), and five digs over two matches played in the tournament. Against Elms in the championship match, Toth had eight kills, a .312 hitting percentage, one service ace, four digs, and five block assists. 

Endicott freshman Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) led all student-athletes with a match-high 16 kills (.278) to go along with six digs, while classmate Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.) registered eight putaways (.333), four digs, and a match-high six block assists. 

Meanwhile, Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) and Adam Dake (Victor, N.Y.) split duties running the Gulls’ offense, as Riorden tallied 21 assists and one dig, while Dake posted 20 assists and six digs. Defensively, Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) tied for the match-high in digs with 12. Healy also went 15-for-15 on serve-receive.

Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) paced the Blazers with 15 kills (.222), three digs, and one block solo. Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) chipped in with 10 kills (.250), one service ace, seven digs, and two blocks (one solo). John dunphy (Farmington, Conn.) orchestrated the Elms’ offense on 24 assists, while Audrye Alejandro (Las Piedras, Puerto Rico) collected a 12 digs (tied for match-high). 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today’s match featured 24 tie scores and 10 elad changes.
  • Trailing 23-20 in the third set, Elms put together a 4-0 run to take a 24-23 advantage, but Endicott answered back with a 5-1 run of its own to lock up its fifth straight title.
  • Endicott’s Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) put together a solid performance beyond the stat sheet going 22-for-23 on serve receive in addition to his four kills, five digs, and two block assists. Eleven of his 23 reception attempts also led to kills (.478).
  • As a team, Endicott’s serve receive had 30 of its 56 attempts result in kills (.536).
  • Reis Levy was even more impressive on serve receive as the junior outside went a perfect 26-for-26 for Elms. Eight of his 26 receptions also correlated in kills (.308).
  • Gulls’ senior middle Ryan Sutherland (Fairport, N.Y.) connected for six kills on just eight attempts for a match-high .750 hitting percentage (minimum five attempts).

Endicott (21-10) has earned the NECC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season. The Gulls will receive word of their opponent on the upcoming NCAA Tournament Selection Show this Monday, April 17 at 10 AM (EST) on www.ncaa.com. Elms sees its 2017 season come to a close at 18-10 overall.


BEVERLY –  The Endicott women’s tennis team fell to Mount Holyoke College by an 8-1 score on Saturday evening at the South Campus Courts. 

Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) picked up the Gulls’ lone victory on the day with a hard-fought 7-5, 5-7, 10-6 triumph at the No. 6 singles position.

  • Losano is 6-1 in singles play this season, which includes a 1-0 mark at No. 5 and a 5-1 record at No. 6.
