Endicott Baseball Wins Back to Back League Titles – Blanking Salve Regina in CCC Title Game, 1-0

BEVERLY – The No. 4/6 nationally ranked Endicott baseball team defeated No. 13/18 Salve Regina, 1-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship game to win its second straight title on Saturday evening at North Field.

GAME TWO: Endicott 1, Salve Regina 0

WP (5-1): Kyan Bagshaw (Amherst, N.H.) – 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 KLP (1-1): Kyle Carozza (Fairfield, Conn.) – 2 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 KSV (1): Gabe Van Emon (Lexington) – 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to finally break open the tightly-contested stalemate.

John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) initiated the scoring chance for the Gulls with a leadoff single up the middle.

From there, Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) lined a single to right field allowing pinch runner Joey Frammartino (North Reading) to capitalize on his speed, go first-to-third, and set up the game-winning run.

Van Emon took care of the rest, retiring all six batters he faced in order to clinch the CCC title.


GAME ONE: Salve Regina 5, Endicott 2

The Seahawks broke open a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning with a three-run frame and held onto the advantage the rest of the way.

Endicott nearly put together a comeback bid in the fifth with one out and the bases loaded but Salve Regina stymied the Gulls’ chances by only allowing a sacrifice fly to get out of the jam.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • The Gulls are one win away from tying the single-season program record (40).
  • Van Emon notched his second career save in the CCC Championship finale.
  • Endicott is 4-1 against Salve Regina this season.
  • This is the program’s eighth CCC Championship (2000, 2003-04, 2006, 2013-14, 2022-23 | nine conference titles in total, GNAC, 1997).

WHAT’S NEXT

No. 4/6 Endicott (39-6) has earned the league’s automatic qualifier into the 2023 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament. First round action is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 19.

The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is scheduled to air on www.ncaa.com on Monday, May 15 at 12 PM.
