WENHAM, Mass. — The Endicott men’s tennis team defeated crosstown rival Gordon, 6-1, in the opening match of Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
The Gulls picked up the doubles point in the match after falling at No. 1 doubles, as Ethan Hopman (Summit, N.J.) and Patrick Johnson (Beverly) made quick work at No. 3 doubles (6-1) to tie the doubles session. Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) and Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) were victorious at No. 2 doubles (6-4) to give Endicott an opening 1-0 advantage.
From there, Kadel made it 2-0 Gulls after dispatching his opponent at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-1). Gordon would pick up its only point in the match at No. 5 singles but George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Hopman responded with emphatic wins at No. 2 (6-2, 7-5) and No. 4 singles (7-6 (7-4), 6-3).
Eric Scalici (Essex Fells, N.J.) and Marsallo secured the road victory at No. 6 (6-3, 7-6 (8-6)) and No. 3 (6-1, 4-6, 6-4).
