BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott men’s basketball graduate forward Marcus Montagnino (Gloucester) has been named as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Third Team Academic All-American, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Montagnino is the first Endicott men’s basketball student-athlete ever to receive Academic All-America honors, and the 24th student-athlete to achieve such honors in Endicott athletics history.
ACADEMIC RESUME
As an undergrad, Montagnino completed his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management at Xavier University. He graduated with a 3.6 grade-point average (GPA) in May 2024, and decided to complete his Master’s in Sport Leadership at Endicott this past year.
Since beginning grad school, Montagnino has obtained a perfect 4.0 GPA at Endicott.
His work experience includes an internship with Props 2 Pops Basketball League, a YMCA Camp Counselor in the city of Gloucester, and a Xavier Athletics Intramural Employee.
Montagnino plans to continue his master’s at Endicott, with an expected graduation date set for May 2026.
ATHLETIC RESUME
Last month, Montagnino was named as the first-ever National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American in Endicott men’s basketball program history. He also donned Conference of New England (CNE) Player of the Year honors, as well as NABC and D3hoops.com First Team All-Region selections.
His averages of 22.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game all ranked top three in the Conference of New England (CNE).
On the national scale, his points per game ranked 16th in Division III, while his assists ranked T-42nd, his steals ranked T-76th, and his rebounds ranked 86th.
Additionally, his shooting numbers of 59.4% from the field, 44.8% from deep, and 80.9% from the free throw line each ranked among the top of the charts across the NCAA.
Across Endicott’s record books, Montagnino recorded the highest total points, rebounds, assists (PRA) in program single-season history (883). He also recorded the program’s second ever triple-double (first in regulation) on January 18 (33 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists) while also tying the program single-game assists record.
YEAR IN REVIEW
Montagnino’s historic debut season with the Gulls led them to an 18-8 overall record with a 15-3 record in league play.
The Gulls earned the No. 2 seed in the CNE Tournament, but ultimately fell to No. 3 Suffolk, 96-85, on February 27.
The 18 wins this season were the most for Coach Bettencourt’s squad since 2019-20.
The Blue and Green also won 15 conference games for the first time since 2016-17, and rattled off an 11-game win streak between January 15 and February 19 — the longest win streak since 2014-15.
