SAUGUS — Chief Domenic J. DiMella is pleased to announce that the Saugus Police Department’s newest member, Officer Jonathan Maes, is out on patrol in the community after finishing his field training this summer.

Officer Maes graduated from the Methuen Police Academy on June 26 and completed the Saugus Police Department’s 8-week field training program two weeks ago. He is now assigned to the 1-9 a.m. shift.

A Saugus High School graduate, Officer Maes enlisted with the Air Force in August 2004 and obtained the rank of E-5 Staff Sergeant. He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, completing his second in October 2014. Officer Maes is presently serving in the Air National Guard.

“We are excited to have Officer Maes as a member of this department and congratulate him for completing the rigorous police academy earlier this summer,” Chief DiMella said. “It makes me proud to see someone who was born and raised here return home to serve his community.”
