Driver Has Been Cited in Ipswich Fatal Bicyclist Crash – Announcement from District Attorney’s Office

SALEM – IPSWICH – Report from Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett’s Office: 

The driver of the vehicle that struck and killed a bicyclist in Ipswich on March 26th has been cited for Motor Vehicle Homicide, according to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas.

Ryane Linehan, 43, of Ipswich, has been cited with Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation, Marked Lanes violation, and Composing, Sending, Reading an Electronic Message.  She has been summoned to appear at a clerk’s hearing May 18, 2020, where a clerk magistrate will determine if there is probable cause to issue a criminal complaint.

On March 26th, George Norris, 58, was riding his bike on Topsfield Road in Ipswich with his wife and son when they were allegedly struck by a 2011 Kia Soul operated by Ms. Linehan.  Mr. Norris was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital where he succumbed to injuries early the next morning. Ms. Linehan remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The matter was investigated by the Ipswich Police, the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
